Sci-fi Nuclear Fallout first person shooter with RPG elements...oh yeah, and mutant zombies. Read more

About this project
Hello all, my name is Steve and I appreciate you taking the time to read about my project. This is my first co-developed title for our platform called Nuclear Eclipse Online also known as N.E.O that takes place in a world envisioned to be Fallout 3 meets Halo. NEO is a Free-to-Play Sci-fi shooter that has been in development for almost 2 years.
NEO is being developed by my team here in the US under the name Boiling Core Entertainment and an outsourcing company in Beijing China that also worked on titles like Halo 3. The team behind Boiling Core has years of experience making and playing online games, and this project is the culmination of lifetimes devoted to online gaming. When we decided to start this endeavor we realized there was just no way to develop a larger scale FPS with just 3 of us in a basement.
Other than me on the US side the team works part-time, around other jobs and our outsourcing studios work on milestone payments & future royalties. Since I am self-funding this project this causes a lot of delays, bottlenecks, miscommunication and stress. And that’s what has brought me to Kickstarter.
So, where are we at?
We have been working on NEO for awhile now and it’s almost ready. We are shooting for a closed beta in October and a planned open beta at the end of November. The internal tests have all been positive, but the game needs a lot more polish before we are ready to open it up to players. We need to rethink some things and fix some bugs. One thing personally is the art direction as far as character models. The mutant zombies just aren’t mutant-y or zombie-y enough for my taste yet.
- 8-10 Game Maps, that includes 2-3 PvE mission maps.
- 6 Game Modes; like King of the Hill, Killing Machine, Capture the Flag, Zombie Apocalypse, etc.
- 8 Sets of mixable equipment that includes 7 pieces each (Avatar customization)
- 5 different basic Avatars to customize
- 16 Weapons with 22 weapon modifications
- 3-5 Vehicles. I wanted a map that can have air combat, but that might be a 75k Stretch goal.
- A ranking system for individuals and teams.
The PvE missions are unique, in that they have multiple difficulty levels with different rewards for each run. The PvE missions can be done solo or with a team.
As mentioned above, I like air combat. So if we hit $75,000 there will be a large map for that.
Currently NEO is a PC only title, but if we somehow manage to hit $150,000 we will begin porting over to the Xbox, PS3, and OUYA marketplaces where you can download for FREE on all three.
Rewards: The rewards are something that the team and I thought people would like, but we are open to other ideas. Send me a message and we can talk about it. In the meantime here is some concept art for some of the current rewards.

http://Boilingcore.com will become a destination for free-to-play online multiplayer games on PC and in the future mobile & console platforms. We will publish our own internally developed titles as well as provide a place where developers get access to our user base via Boiling Core’s specialized platform that enables quick and easy game integration.
The Boiling Core platform allows us to quickly get primarily 3rd party developed titles like NEO to launch in the US , so not that we can make money –but so that we can make games. Some of the ideas we are kicking around for our first entirely developed project is a Star Trek MOBA, a Wing Commander FPS, a Monster Rancher style tablet game, and if all our dreams come true an MMO based in the world of Nickelodeons Avatar.
MMOFPS is an online gaming genre which features a persistent world and a large number of simultaneous players in a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-person_shooter fashion.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game#cite_note-9http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game#cite_note-Huxley_PC-10 These games provide large-scale, sometimes team-based combat. The addition of persistence in the game world means that these games add elements typically found in RPGs, such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experience_point.[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed] However, MMOFPS games emphasize player skill more than player statistics, as no number of in-game bonuses will compensate for a player's inability to aim and think tactically.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game#cite_note-beyondMMOG-11 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neocron is sometimes considered the first MMOFPS,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game#cite_note-beyondMMOG-11http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game#cite_note-12 most consider it a hybrid of MMORPG and first-person shooter,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game#cite_note-13http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game#cite_note-spot_preview_feb02-14 with the later http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlanetSide allowing 399 players all to fight together on the same map. Some may consider Zipper's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAG_(video_game) an MMOFPS as it allows up to 256 players to fight together on the same map.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_game#cite_note-15. The newest, and by far the biggest, MMOFPS to date that will be going into beta phases soon is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlanetSide_2, sequel to the original game. It is said to be able to support up to 2,000 players in a single map, or continent of the game with a max cap of 6,000 players on a single server fighting across different continents.
Good question! The 50k is used for US game servers and to pay the team in China which cost about $7,000 a month.
