There is no better way to introduce Último Dragón to fans outside of his world than to show the origin and myth behind the famous mask he wears. To show the creation of this mask and its journey through time, the people who wear it, the powers it wields and how it is passed down through history. This is the story of a mask, a persona, and a legend.
This 100+ page graphic novel is the first in a series uncovering the origin and history of Último Dragón’s famous mask.
"It is said that a great warrior chieftain is the one that created the code for which the wearer of the mask should live by…that with knowledge, courage and strength comes with a great price…for centuries…the mask has found itself being handed down from tribe to tribe…then from clan to clan…never owned by one people…but always used by those that needed it…that needed its courage and wisdom…and strength that lie within it….there may come a day in the time of our people that one of you may have to wear this mask…it is a great undertaking…for one may wear the mask on the outside…but the mask owns you on the inside…I hope that day…never comes."
The myth of the mask is conceived in feudal Japan and the legend is reborn in Mexico during the revolution. Then it’s off to post-WWII New Orleans and London in the Swinging 60’s, before reaching a post-apocalyptic futuristic wasteland. This time-traveling tale of Último’s mythical mask is a surreal and intense voyage into the unknown.
Because our project is unconventional.
Because we, the creators, the writers and artists, are unconventional.
And because, most importantly, our fans are unique and unconventional.
The Último Dragón graphic novel series began as an idea that would bring together a diverse group of creative individuals that have varied and contrasting influences and inspirations, but who all share a strong and singular vision, to combine and create a series of stories that the fans of graphic novels and comics, and wrestling and lucha libre could call their own.
Because Último Dragón is a lucha libre hero and wrestling icon, but also a storyteller in his own right. He possesses a distinctive and colorful real-life personality as exciting and intriguing as any fictional superhero. With an international fan base and worldwide following of loyal admirers he has created and maintained a fabled persona unequaled in the world of sports entertainment.
Our creative team brings over 100 years of experience to this project - in advertising and marketing, professional and published writing, television and film production, internet/web marketing and design and fine art.
We are fans that have come to embrace graphic novels, lucha libre, anima, cinema, video games and storytelling because we have come to love and appreciate the worlds of mystery that they create for us. We are the fans that love the bizarre and surreal, the fantastical and fanciful.
We want you to be a part of this project and come on the journey with us.
We want you to help us create something fresh and new.
We want you to become a fan too.
We want to share this with you.

Wil and Tyrine have been working side by side and non-stop since they first met over 5 years ago. Their work has been featured on countless websites, both professional and viral. Their homebase is Illinois, but they continuously travel the United States in their "DragónWagon," from Convention to Convention. Whether it be Anime Expo Los Angeles, ComicCon or Stan Lee's Comikaze, Wil and Tyrine have been to all corners of the country meeting fans and selling artwork.
It's tough to argue who is a bigger nerd. Wil likes dinosaurs, mentally-challenged kittens and peanut butter/chocolate ice cream, while Tyrine prefers sushi, super computers and beds as soft as bowling balls.
The bottom line... their work is stunning. Just look at some of the concept art already created for this project!
The Último Dragón Graphic Novel is the first cover-to-cover book Musetap Art Studios will complete. And it certainly won't be their last. The following images are what put Musetap Art Studios on the map!

"This project has taken years to bring to life but every painful pitfall and obstacle was worth it once we create and bring to the fans the stories we want to tell,” says Madigan.
Here are a couple of excerpts from the Último Dragón Graphic Novel:
"...The mask has been in our care for lifetimes…we do not own this…we watch it…care for it….I can remember my father’s grandfather telling me on his deathbed the stories that have been passed down about the mask…and the powers within it….a once great warrior from a long forgotten Northern Tribe traveled out of the land of snow and ice to track a great beast that was known to possess great knowledge and courage…a dragon…the last of its race….an aged and noble creature nearing death….this warrior chieftain tracked this once mighty dragon down… he wounded the great beast in a fierce battle…but the dragon being old and wise…thought it better to retreat and make a stand when it was stronger…the warrior followed the trail of blood that flowed from the dragon’s wounds…he tracked him….across great barren lands…through forests thick and dark…they finally met face to face…on a desolate plateau many many miles from here…they battled for hours…this great warrior chieftain and this dying creature…at the end…both were broken…beaten…but the dragon’s mighty spirit fought to the end…when it was over…and done…this brave warrior slew the dragon….ending for all time…this great race of noble creatures…the warrior drank the blood of the dragon to collect its wisdom…he ate its heart to give him strength…and he made a mask out of the dragon’s skin to give him courage…and when it was over…and the great warrior chieftain had attained the knowledge, the strength and courage of the dragon…he regretted what he had done…for with the knowledge he now possessed…he realized that by slaying the dragon, he deprived the world of its greatness."
"The Dragón breathes fire…yet it, like all creatures, can be consumed by the flame…the Dragón has come to understand the harmony that lies within all of nature…for he can control the fire that burns in him and not let it consume him…fire is both anger and passion…the flame can warm one’s house…or burn down one’s kingdom…do we stoke the fires that burn within us to become raging infernos…or do we temper the flames so that we create a guiding light?"
As with any project that relies on the collective efforts of suppliers to meet deadlines, sometimes things don't go as scheduled or planned. Barring any catastrophic failures by our suppliers (printer and bindery, silk screener and embroiderer, writer and illustrators), we aim to deliver all items on time or before the date we estimate on the campaign.
To be most cost effective, and to make receiving your reward items as special and exciting as possible, we will only send your items once they are all complete. So, if you were smart and ordered the Limited Edition Hard Cover version of the book, you'll wait a bit for it to be produced, but it will come all pretty and with a whole bunch of other rewards at the same time. You will get everything from us that your reward level included, and probably more, because we know us. We like to make our contributors more than happy!
Yes, there are real risks in any business venture, but we have a great team devoted to ensuring the fulfillment goes smoothly. If for some reason there is a major setback, and we feel like we may not meet our timeline commitments, you'll be the first to know. And then we'll just work twice as hard to make it all happen as fast as possible anyway!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
