I love bikes, being active, the outdoors, and making things so I spent about six months learning how and making this bamboo bike.
After riding it for sometime I found that people love it! I literally can't take it out into public without people asking me about it. So I decided I want to direct my love for riding bikes, the environment, and creativity towards something awesome for everyone by making bikes out of bamboo!
Kickstarters, this is where you come in, by helping create District Bamboo Bikes. Currently I'm literally making the bikes in my bedroom workshop but in order to share them with everyone I need to move to a shop and pick up a few things along the way. Here's where your money will go:
$150 Limited Liability Company fees
$1500 Frame Building Jig
$350 Bike CAD Design Program
$600 Building Materials
With this I will be able to make custom to order bicycles made from locally grown bamboo for everyone. District Bamboo Bikes will function on these four main ideas:
Bamboo: It's the center of the bike so I continually look to innovate new ways to provide a better bike, utilizing the strengths bamboo has to offer.
Local: I will focus on being cooperative and not competitive by working with small local businesses both in and out of the bike industry.
Socially Responsible: Everything from the bamboo to the bike's components is sourced locally and all processes are done with the environment and local community in mind.
Cool: These Bikes are unique and literally no two are alike; you're not just buying a bike but a functional piece of art.
Kickstarter is 'all or nothing' so if I don't reach the $5,000 goal nobody will get any rewards!
Here's some of the rewards you can get.
A desktop wallpaper of my bikes at each of the monuments and memorials in Washington DC.
Sweet logo stickers! If you send us pictures of where you put our stickers up we'll put the pictures on our website.

Questions about the bikes.
Why bamboo? Seriously.....who does that?
Bamboo is a natural and renewable resource that is easy to grow locally with no chemicals or pesticides. The natural beauty and workability of bamboo lends itself to endless possibilities for customization and design. Bamboo is light, incredibly strong, and provides an amazingly smooth ride with its natural dampening qualities. This makes a perfect material for making commuter, and recreational road and mountain bikes.
Is it durable? I won't die if I ride it will I?
No you won't die, bamboo has a tensile strength equal to steel and a weight to strength ratio equal to that of steel and graphite. The frames are very strong and crash resilient.
How does it hold up in weather? How long will it last?
All the bamboo used has been cured and dried to prevent susceptibility to dry rot, water absorption, and hot and cold weather conditions. Once the frames are finished they are sealed with several coats of exterior urethane to further protect against harsh weather elements and deterioration. With proper care they will last as long as any carbon or alloy bike on the market.
What is it made out of?
All the bamboo is harvested from the Washington DC area, the working parts use machined steel, and the joints are bound with hemp and epoxy.
