A documentary on how to create a social enterprise that brings love, communities ties, and empowerment to the Wayuu People of Colombia.
I am starting this Kickstarter to fund a documentary about my company, Buena Onda. Buena Onda is a lifestyle brand that uses social enterprise to bring love, community ties, and empowerment to the Wayuu People of Colombia. Now I know what you're thinking... What does Buena Onda mean? Buena Onda is an emotional saying that means "Good Vibe," it describes the essence of something being good and on a positive wavelength. It also is the perfect name for the company because it explains what we are all about. Not only do we want to bring a Buena Onda to the world, but we would love to have you join this Buena Onda!
The goal for this Kickstarter is to capture our business practices, the process of making our products, the struggles we face, and of course the culture and daily life of the Wayuu. In this day and age, we are obsessed with entrepreneurs and their ideas, yet many time we miss the details of how and where products are made, what materials are used, and why it is important to support companies with good ethics.
The point of this documentary is to show that a company can be successful without only being concerned with the bottom line. You will see how I came to know the Wayuu, why I created Buena Onda, and what the hope is for the company. You will also meet my Wayuu friends and come to understand their culture and way of life. You will discover what they think of Buena Onda and how it will benefit their corner of the world. We will show you that social enterprises are essential to supporting different groups of people around the world.
With the $31,000 we raise, we will be able to do the following:
1. Capture the journey of Buena Onda and the life and culture of the Wayuu.
2. Pay for the amazing rewards we are giving out, which will fuel the Wayuu economy.
3. Pay for our crew to travel and work on the documentary.
4. Pay for the distribution of rewards and content.
5. Grow the Buena Onda brand and it's mission, while supporting the Wayuu.
Below you will see samples of our handmade products. Remember that everything is one of a kind and not replicated, so everyone who donates will receive a truly unique reward. Thank you for your time and support! Buena Onda!
Risks and challenges
There are many problems that we will face when filming this documentary. First and foremost, traveling to Colombia from the United States is never easy or simple, especially with a crew of people. However, I have traveled to over 45 countries and have managed crews in the past. I can quickly adjust and lead people into the unknown. The most important thing is to be flexible and roll with the punches.
Another major concern is the problems we may have with our equipment. However, we will be bringing extra cameras, batteries, and audio equipment. Every trip to Colombia I have filmed and captured amazing footage. In the past, I have run out of batteries and have had problems with my equipment. This time around I will be more prepared.
Weather and terrain is always an obstacle. However, we will be renting a 4x4 SUV so we can visit all the rancherias without any problems.
Finally, I know the logistics of shipping out the rewards will be an issue. I have put together a logistical plan to deal with large and small shipments.
I know many other problems may arise along the way, but I am confident that I am well equipped to face any new challenge.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
