We did it!!!
I am happy to announce that my goal has been reached! I cannot express how appreciative and happy and excited I am at this moment. But even more than that, I am humbled that all of you believe in this project – and in me – enough to help fund it. I can't thank you all enough.
As some of you may know, once a project on Kickstarter has been funded, more funds can be raised. In the interest of complete transparency, I set the goal as modestly as I could, for if the goal isn’t reached at the deadline – if it’s even missed by one dollar – than all the pledges go away and the project would not happen. All or nothing. Also, Kickstarter takes 5 percent off the top and Amazon (the escrow middle-man), takes between 3 percent and 5 percent as well.
That being said, I can do this project on $2,500, but it will be extremely tight, even for a simple guy like me. I’ve been told by a few friends that $250 for food over two months might be a little low, even on a PB&J diet. And as much as the VW van is a pretty solid vehicle, he needs a little work (I’m naming him Harry, after my grandfather, Harry Killian). Harry and I got off to a hairy start together.
See the funny yet disturbing story here.
So, any additional funds over the already reached goal will be used to augment the food budget, for any repairs that Harry might need on the road and to help pay for the mobile Internet hotspot access (via a smart-phone) that I will need to be able to update the project Website, www.swingstatestories.com. The site is starting to come together, with help from my friend Darrough West.
I have added a few additional rewards in the reward section on the Kickstarter page. Again, thanks to you all so, so, so very much. I am looking forward to starting this project. It’s going to be a lot of hard work, but you are all making my life a TON easier.
I can’t wait to take you on the road with me. Let’s meet the swing states together.
Best and warm regards, Chris
