The Unbelievable Truth (1989), Trust (1990) and Simple Men (1992) on DVD or Blu-ray—newly restored in HD and subtitled in French, Spanish, German, Japanese and English.
These, my first three feature films from the early nineteen-nineties, remain some of my most popular. However, they've been hard to find. And I've been working for years to bring them together, restore them in HD and make them available with subtitles in various languages. And now I have done that. The DVDs are available in NTSC (Japan & North America) and PAL (EU & elsewhere) formats. Both the DVDs and Blu-rays are not region coded - so they will play whether you are in the UK, France, Poland or elsewhere.
Many of you might have been backers of my previous Kickstarters for Meanwhile (2011), Ned Rifle (2013), and the Henry Fool Trilogy (2017). If you were, please know that your enthusiasm and encouragement then has helped me and my gang develop and perfect a workflow where I now have the means to preserve my films and distribute them through most parts of the world directly.
Thank you for that.
Along with the new box-set of the Long Island Trilogy, I am preparing a new CD of music from those films, remixes, and previously unreleased alternate versions of tunes. (I have not given that CD a name yet, but I'm thinking of "Can't Stand The Quiet"). And we are happy to start work on the 2019 halhartley.com calendar. (The first one we did this year was a big hit.)
Both the DVD and the Blu-ray box-sets are designed in traditional DVD sized packaging, as opposed to Blu-ray sized packaging—a packaging format I prefer.
Thanks for reading all this. And if you are as excited as we are here in my workshop, please go tell everyone you know. Tell people you don't know too. We can't wait to get started.
Risks and challenges
Many of you backed the Henry Fool Trilogy campaign last year. That was a happy success and, afterwards, a steep learning curve for us here at Possible Films as we discovered just how time consuming and detailed the work of subtitling is. But we learned and are happy with the results. So the Long Island Trilogy should not take as long to complete. But there is always the chance of technical set-backs. As with the previous campaign, we'll let you know if there will be delays.
Also: these three films were made between 1989 and 1991 in 35mm motion picture film. They exhibit qualities associated with motion picture film photography of that era.
Once again, thank you all for your interest and enthusiasm.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
