Meet Show Me Your You
You know that feeling. You're in a photo session, you've got the light and subjects just how you want them. You look down the barrel and they're staring back at you expectantly, expressionless. You draw a blank as for what to say.
So, how do we turn moments like these into photographs worth remembering?
Enter Show Me Your You. We created these cards firstly for ourselves. We wanted something powerful and portable that we could always have on hand for our sessions—and for portrait emergencies!
Are you ready to shoot from the heart?
The thirty-six games, interactions and thought provoking questions have been artfully designed to elicit genuine expressions, tender moments and to foster deep connections.
Show Me Your You will help you make portraits that go beyond a smile.
Printed on premium card stock, each fifty-four card, poker-sized deck contains:
Thirty-six beautifully designed, colour-coded prompt cards for individuals (saffron), couples (rose) and families (navy).
Three double-sided cards with instructions and essential tips.
Twelve blank cards, for you to create your own.
Each deck will come beautifully presented in a custom printed cardboard tuckbox.
The idea of portrait photography prompts is not a new one. This project was inspired by the incredible work of Jesh De Rox, the creator of 'Moment Design' (originally known as 'The Beloved Collective').
Shooting in this heartfelt way, over many hundreds of sessions, we organically developed our own signature prompts.
What makes Show Me Your You special is that it gives you access to the golden nuggets that have given us the best results throughout our years of trial and error. Like most photographers, we've learned the hard way (and are still learning!)—through mistakes, awkward moments, wins, risks, tears and goosebumps.
Most importantly, the real driving force behind Show Me Your You is that we wanted to put all this into a handy, attractive, affordable, portable and tangible package.
Who are they for?
Show Me Your You has been designed by photographers, for photographers and is ideal for anyone from budding enthusiasts through to seasoned professionals.
How do they work?
Portrait photographers know that working with humans is never predictable. Show Me Your You helps you create a safe, open space so that the subjects can truly be themselves (hence the name!).
These cards are so powerful that in most instances only a sprinkling of prompts are needed throughout a session in order to get excellent results.
There are countless ways to use them, whether in the field or photography studio. What's important is that you use them in the way that feels best for you and suits your personal style. Over time you will find that you use certain cards again and again, incorporating them into your repertoire and committing them to memory.
As you grow more experienced with using the cards, you will be able to make them even more personal by developing your own, using the blank cards provided.
What are the levels of intensity?
Each category has three levels of intensity: from light, playful interactions (one star), through to more personal or tender interactions (two stars), and finally deeper interactions (three stars) that require strong rapport between the subjects and photographer.
Three ways to use them:
1. The Planner
One option is to pre-select the cards you plan to use before the shoot, based on what you already know about the subject/s. Order them from lightest to deepest intensity and keep the selected cards in your pocket. The rest can be on hand as a back up in your camera bag. You can always make changes on the fly too, as the session unfolds.
2. The Free Spirit
Keep the whole deck with you (or just the required category), and pick and choose as you go. If you want to mix things up a bit, why not leave things to chance and pick prompts at random? You can even involve the subjects in the process and ask them to pick a card! Random selection works well for the one and two star cards. However, three star cards are best chosen only by you, if you feel the subject is ready for this deeper level of emotional intensity.
3. The Emergency Pack
Portrait emergency? Keep the deck in your pocket or camera bag and draw on them for inspiration when you get stuck for ideas.
What are the benefits?
It's simple: "People will forget what you said, they'll forget what you did, but they'll never forget the way you made them feel".
How far along is the project?
The cards have been beautifully designed and tested by professional photographers, but they will still be further edited. A prototype of the deck is complete and we've received quotes from several printing companies.
We are currently in the process of ordering samples to determine which printer has the best quality and customer service.
The final step before printing is to design the custom tuckbox. These next steps will be sorted out during the funding period so we can get your decks printed and on your doorstep as soon as possible!
Why do we need your support?
What does the funding goal cover?
Our goal of AUD$ 2500 will cover the first edition print run, shipping costs and Kickstarter fees.
How Kickstarter works
If you're new to crowdfunding, let us break it down for you a bit.
Crowdfunding is a way for people vote on something they like. Essentially you will either:
a) Pre-order a product. (In our case, if you spend $21 and above, you will receive a physical product, once it is produced.)
b) Make a small donation (e.g. $5) to support the project.
How to get the cards
- Choose the reward level you'd like to pledge at. You can only choose ONE funding level, so that's why we have a few for you to choose from.
- Follow our progress and let other people know about it—the more backers we have, the more chance everyone will get to enjoy Show Me Your You!
- You will only be charged if and when we reach our goal. Payments are taken shortly after the funding period has ended.
By getting behind our project, not only can you say you helped make Show Me Your You a reality, but you get to be one of the first people in the world to experience it. All this AND you get your decks at a price significantly below the expected retail price.

Risks and challenges
One obstacle that could potentially occur is that we could encounter unexpected delays during the pre-print, print, order fulfilment, or shipping phases, which would set back delivery dates. However, due to this being a relatively straight-forward product to manufacture, and small item to ship, we are fairly confident in our estimation of timelines.
Also, depending on the quantity of orders we receive, we are considering using an order fulfilment service. As this is the first time we've done this, we'll be learning as we go and doing our very best to make well-informed decisions at each stage.
There is a risk that people may not be interested in Show Me Your You and that we may not reach our funding goal. That would be sad because we would all miss out!
What if we blow our budget?
Our funding goal is based on firm quotes for printing and the initial bulk product shipping, so we don't foresee too much risk there.
We have decided to subsidise the individual shipping costs for our backers to make it more affordable for them (shipping from Australia is expensive!). While it's not possible at this stage to calculate exactly how much we'll need to contribute towards these fees, we have made estimations. This is not really a risk that will affect our backers, just more something for us to be aware of.
Our mission is to bring Show Me Your You to the world, and we won't stop until we do! This means our backers can be confident in receiving the product they have put their money and support behind.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
