Exciting news!

There is a lot of exciting documentary news.

We are picture locked! The film has now been handed to David O for original music composing and recording. He’s also reaching out to some of your favorite Brony musicians to ask them to participate. If you want to make suggestions, contact David via twitter @davidomusic. The audio mix is also under way and color correction has started.

With the last steps under way, we’re looking at a release date of January 12th for the digital download. The Blu-ray disc will then be manufactured and should be ready to ship in February.

If you didn’t see the last update, the name of the film has been changed to “Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony”

Ready for a sneak peak? Our digital distributor will be sending you an email that includes a download link for a backer exclusive trailer. We are testing the distribution system, so if you don’t get the download code by December 20th check all your email accounts and spam folders then contact us at If you encounter problems downloading the trailer then contact

Many of you have asked about public distribution plans. This film was made for the world to see, and we’re working to make that happen. The film is now available for pre-order purchase for a modest price as a digital download via In February, the Blu-ray disc will be available to the public via and We will also be submitting for approvals to appear on iTunes, Netflix and other popular services, but that process takes several months. The roll out for an independent film can take some time, so hang in there and enjoy the ride as the world starts to become more aware of the film and Bronies.

You heard it here first. Tara Strong has created and recorded an original song. “Take My Hand” is the title and it will be part of the credit bed of the film. It’s very good and very hard to get out of your head. We’ve included a photo of Tara in the studio working on the song.

See you in the New Year.

      Dominic Smith on

Hey, with so many bronies and curious families of bronies excited about the immediate release date, I though here would be as good a place as any to post a question to Michael Brockhoff.

I'm a UK brony and while, being 28 and having my own place, I have no real issues with my family, I know several younger ones, at school and collage, that do. I know, it's a familiar story and part of the reason this documentary was made, so families of bronies can see it and have their confusion or even fears put at rest.

My question is, having donated enough to acquire the Blue Ray copy, would it be alright for me to organize a London cinema showing of the doc? The word can go out to the UK brony community so bronies can invite their families along to it?

Being unfamiliar with your promotional plans for the finished documentary I wanted thought it would be best to enquire here rather than just go ahead in case you have plans, for example, to visit London yourselves over the next few months and put on a showing in which, as you said to me when I got to chat to you and Laurence at BUCK, backers like myself would be given seats to attend. :)

      Can't wait for digital download!

    5. Jacob Gibson on

Thank you, Zack! I wish I'd thought to say that. A belated merry Christmas to you too! ^_^ At least I can say to everyone "happy not-end-of-the-world new year!"

Hey, just figured I'd wish everyone here a merry Christmas! You guys are just as much family to me as my own. So merry Christmas, AppleJake, Michael, BVM, Paul, Jarred, Justin, and all the rest of you. And merry Christmas to Tara, Andrea, Ashleigh, Tabitha, Kathy, John, and the rest of the cast and crew of both the show and documentary.

    7. Jacob Gibson on

February for the blu-ray? Aaaaaaaagghh! I'm not going to survive until then! I thought it was going to be an "early Christmas present," but now all of this waiting is going to make me go lesson zero! *deep breath* Ok, relax Jake. You can wait until January 12 for the digital download. I know I'll watch the movie at least once more once I get the blu-ray (and the bonus disc with the extended interviews).
That preview was so good! I've watched it 3 times now. I'm sure this could be my favorite documentary for a long time if not forever. When the music at the end started playing I was hoping it was "Great to be Different" by Forest Rain. Do you think you'll use that song? Thank you a million for making this movie. I hope that the viewing public appreciates it too and doesn't see it as catering to us fans.

That trailer was awesome indeed and moving.

They've since updated it to allow for 4 downloads of each resolution of the Promo Trailer. Hopefully this will be enough for everyone.

      Paul Gettle on

I'm also having the exact same issues as described by Alan De Smet below.

And it's not like I expect them to keep the movie backed up on their servers forever, but while the promo is being hosted on their servers, anyone who's authorized to download it, should be able to attempt downloads as many times as is needed to successfully get a copy of the file. If scrnland's business model seriously only supports enough transfer bandwidth to support just one download of the file per name on the authorized downloaders list, then it may be time to look for a different distribution method, even if it costs a little more.

    14. Paula Clark on

Got the promo. Very nice. I had no problems downloading, actually it duplicated when I loaded it to iTunes. Or maybe I hit it twice, either way, it was smooth. Excited and anxious to hear the original music.

That's great. Thank you for your concern. :)

As for the trailer itself, it looked absolutely great. I can't wait for January.

    16. Michelle K. T. Illg on

Tara's original song?! Brony music?! January 12?! Public distribution?! I have just one immediate reaction to all of this:

      *hooves-to-face squealing* OMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSHOMIGOSH.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    17. Michael Brockhoff 2-time creator on

No worries. Thats why we decided to do a test with the trailer before the big film release. We will adjust for issues like this.

Like many other gmail users, my mail ended up in the spam folder. Those missing theirs should check there too.

If is the site you intend to use for the actual digital release distribution, I'd expect there to be trouble. The site seems to only allow for the initiation of a single download in each resolution, which means that if, say, your 1080p copy download somehow gets interrupted, which could happen from a connectivity fluctuation of some sort, from your computer deciding to bug out or (as in my case), just ending the download since you realised you saved it in the wrong folder, it won't let you restart the download.

While restricting the number of downloads in itself is a strange practice, it gets aggravated by the fact that it doesn't even check that you actually got your stuff before it shuts you out. If it's an anti-piracy measure, it's spectacularly mishandled; if it somehow fails to download, that just means someone who was supposed to get it instead didn't. I am highly sceptical of this distribution channel.

Well, I guess I better go watch this thing now. :P

    19. Wilfried "Evenprime" Pasquazzo on

Good trailer, you have found some nice stories and people for the Documentary.

My email ended up in the spam-folder on GMail too, so that'll be most likely happen for every user of Google's mail service.

    20. Robert Moy on

Good looking, and touching, trailer. The download was mostly flawless, the only hiccup being that the email ended up in spam (like Collin I have a gmail account). Otherwise it was fast and easy.

      Excited for the release!

    21. Michael Brockhoff 2-time creator on

      @Jordan Olling
All the emails went out so please double check and if you really don't have it anywhere message me so we can check into why it didn't arrive.

    22. Jordan Olling on

I saw the trailer on YouTube, as I haven't received the e-mail yet, and I really liked it! Of course, there is a minority of people calling out "so much spaghetti!", but that's to be expected.

    23. Michael Brockhoff 2-time creator on

      @Alan De Smet
All the issues will be worked out. That's why we are doing a backer exclusive trailer as a test before the whole film. By the way, while I appreciate you would like to have somebody keep a backup for you, there is absolutely no way an Independent distributor can do that and operate like iTunes.

    24. Alan De Smet on

scrnland is not ready for prime time. It failed cryptically when I tried to download it. That happens (he who runs safety measures like NoScript expects it). but when I tried again, "You have already downloaded your 1080p copy" Problem 1: I have not downloaded any copies! I tried, but got "access denied." Problem 2: The idea that you can download something just once ever is very 1999 of scrnland. When I get a movie from iTunes, I can re-download it repeatedly. Steam serves copies of games over and over. When I buy music from Amazon, I don't think I have unlimited downloads, but I have more than one!

I've contacted scrnland about fixing my immediate problem. But you should be aware of these issues. Hopefully scrnland can improve before the full release, but if not perhaps you should look to another distributor.

Excellent job on the trailer guys. It's really well-done, and captures everything this documentary is and should be about. Can't wait until January!
