Why this project?
You've heard the old saying, "Write what you know" Well, this is a world we know really well. As a Canadian actress who has spent a lot of time working in LA, trying to work in LA and being out of work in LA, I have had wonderful and horrible experiences! Nothing surprises me. This is a way to poke some fun at how ridiculous our lives are most of the time. Most actors spend their entire careers chasing the next role. And what do they do in their down time? Tune in to Canooks and find out!
SHELLI CLARKE: (Lynda Boyd) She might be a small town Canadian agent, but when she hits Hollywood...look out!! She'll do whatever and whomever it takes to get ahead.
DICK REDDICK ( Christopher Shyer) When Dick was In Canada he was a big fish in a very small pond. But now?...his career's gone south! Dick's an Actor/singer/dancer... a triple threat, at least in his own mind. He's desperate to make it big, but he's still a chorus boy at heart. And gay. Deeply in the closet except with his nearest and dearest! Spends WAAY too much time singing to himself in the mirror!
KAT BAINES: (Jessica Steen) Gorgeous, athletic, talented, vivacious, versatile . But over 40. So who cares?! Had 2 series in Canada in the 90’s but can't get arrested. Dick’s best friend and beard .
ANGEL JONES (Tanya Clarke) Small town bisexual Canadian who's been working and living off off off Broadway. Met Shelli at a party and decided to hit LA and rent Shelli's guest house. She has no car. She doesn’t know how to drive... In LA?... Really???! Oh yeah...and she brought her cat! Shelli hates cats!
BRAD DEPP (Dylan Ramsey) Shelli’s star client. Not his real name. His parents, the Clooneys named him George, but Shelli came up with Brad Depp. “Just sounds so professional.” His reality show Slackers Paradise took off and now he thinks he's an actor...he's not.
GUNTHER LIPSHITZ ( Philippe Breninkmeyer) German producer doing co pros with Canadians. His latest hit was" Licht the Girls Und Made Them Cry." Enuf said. Shelli wants him to be her producing partner. He wants Shelli to be his agent.
HEDDA LIPSHITZ (Tara Orr) She's a little grumpy...okay, she's a lot grumpy. But you would be too if you were married to Gunther. Hedda's real name is Linda. She's from New Jersey. She changed it when she studied light opera in Berlin. She thought it sounded lesbian and she wanted to snare Gunther. Now she's more German than any German ever!
OOMA STURNAM (Crystal Allen) Not the brightest penny in the jar, but with those legs... she'll go places!
JAMIE O'DONNELL ( Moira Squier) Wicked smart. Shellii doesn't want to lose her as a lawyer so won't rep her. But just wait...payback's a bitch!
SUNSHINE BAINES (Robin Hines) Shelli wants Sunshine to be an actress. Sunshine wants Shelli to chill. She has a perfect life. She's staying with her Aunt Kat, she has a really cool pink phone, and she's got a whole pile of FB friends. Done!
STEPHAN DYLAN SMYTH (David Haydn Jones) Stephan is a star. Just ask him. But back in the day, he was a back up dancer at Canada's Wonderland with Dick. Always willing to bust out the old moves... give the peeps a little taste.
Yes. It’s true. They’re right here. In your midst. And they want a piece of the pie. Not too big a piece... just a nice little slice. But make no mistake about it. They’re here. They’re desperate. And they mean business!
Assembling the cast was the easy part. We have a terrific group of actors who have had a lot of experience in the biz. Some experiences have been great...some haven't.

We are now trying to shoot another season of our show. Canadians are just the device. This is not only the Canadian experience of LA it is everyone's experience. Life is what you make of it!
Our second season follows the continued adventures of our hero's as they traverse the Hollywood minefield of glamour and artifice. Whose to say who the next star will be. Why not one of our gang?
WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?
There are two elements of any production that must be perfect! Picture and Sound. Since the beginning these have been the basic criteria. This cost will represent 30% of our budget. This will include a two person camera crew and a two person sound crew.
The next most important element of the crew is the Line Producer. This person is responsible for the financial life and flow of the show.
And of course, the editing. Especially in comedy, you have to have a great editor who understands the timing We have a fantastic editor in THEO WADDELL He was with us in the first season and will also be with us for season 2.
As you might expect creating and shooting a web series is complicated and expensive. Please help us realize our ambition and fund the second season of CANOOKS!
Risks and challenges
There are many risks and challenges to making a web series. We have proof that we can do it with Canooks Season 1 under our belts. We used many favors and all of our own money to produce the first series. We have a great, very experienced Line Producer, Kelly McCall, who will make certain everyone one is protected... and well fed!
We will have Production Insurance in place for our shoot and Kelly has put together a very professional team. If for some reason there is a problem completing our series, act of God for example, then the remaining funds will be prorated and refunded to donors based on their initial contribution.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
