I take photographs and I make videos, but is that art? Am I an artist?
I've never felt comfortable calling myself an artist. I can't draw, paint or sculpt, and to me those are the things that artist do.
I wondered if others ask themselves the same questions, or if maybe I'm the only one questioning whether I have the right to call myself an artist.
So what to do?
Rather than continue to wonder, I decided to get outside of my own head, and ask people in the art community what their thoughts are.
Since making videos is one of the things I do for a living, I'd like to film those interviews, and hopefully the final result will be an insight into my own place in the art world. And a short video that I can share with you as well :)
The final video will be the main focus of a new accessible website and Facebook Page aimed at school-goers studying Art, as well as established members of the Art community. The video will also be available via Vimeo, Youtube, and on the Facebook Page.
How can you help?
Thanks to some great people, my initial goal of €550 was reached in the first ten days. That's the minimum I needed to rent a studio to film the interviews in for the three months of the project, and cover a tiny bit of equipment rental.(Kickstarter takes 9% of the total raised in charges and fees.) Every extra cent raised will go towards equipment and crew hire.
Reaching the initial goal meant I could start inviting people in the art community to take part in the project. So far I have the following confirmed participants, and I'll continue to invite more over the coming months.

Whatever amount you give will earn my sincere appreciation, and will help to gain an insight into how artists see themselves and their art.
Risks and challenges
Unless I'm hit by a bus, I can't think of any reason for the project not being completed. Three months to complete the project provides a bit of wiggle room in case of any temporarily life changing events.
I've filmed and edited lots of personal projects previously, and a fair few commercial video pieces that were viewed and shared widely.
Finding artists to interview in the South East of Ireland won't be a challenge, there's a vibrant art scene populated by both locals and people from around the globe.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
