I'm Andy Livingston, an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry. I've also been a part of the product development, R&D, and LED lighting industry.
Very recently, I started this project for my own wedding. Since I started it, I've wanted to work in weddings. So many people have asked me about, and commented on the cupcake holder, that I am going to make it into a real commercial product.
The first step is developing circuit boards. Using flex circuits, I plan to simplify the LED placement up the base. An improvement over this:
The next step is to refine the controller circuitry, enabling more complex patterns and pattern storage. I will also add a way to control color and pattern output through buttons.
I have drawn up plans for the next version of the physical structure, an improvement that will allow for faster assembly/disassembly, cleaning, and transport.
So much of this is based on laser cutting and etching technology, I will need to purchase a laser cutter to streamline the prototype and assembly process.
Exactly how your donations will be spent:
- Laser cutter
- Prototype and production run of PCBs
- Electronic components such as LEDs and ICs
- Acrylic stock
- Core and base materials
Here are some pictures of the assembly process, and finished first prototype:
Have a question?
If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
You will receive another of my wedding inventions, the RGB LED edge lit cake topper kit. These can be used as glowing plaques or rewards as well. They consist of an acrylic base with a 3"x5" glass pane on top, which can be custom frosted using craft store frosting stencils and paste.
You'll get your own two-tier cupcake holder! They can also be used as any small product display. It would be especially effective for displaying clear or translucent goods, such as blown glass or hard candy. Each of these will be numbered and come with a signed certificate declaring that it is one of the first of these in the world!
Not only will you receive your own two-tier cupcake holder, but you will get custom laser etching on the shelves! You decide what you'd like on there. Imagine the logo and advertisement possibilities! These will also come numbered with a signed certificate.
Being the largest pledge option, this will be the largest reward. If you pledge $2,000, you will receive the big-daddy of these cupcake holders. Enjoy your own custom etched 4-tier cupcake holder, like the one I had at my wedding!
