We recently launched grplife with a mission of providing organizations that possess a strong sense of moral and social responsibility a way to connect their volunteers and the people they serve. It's our belief that those who use social networks (especially the socially responsible) should feel safe doing so, without the worry that their information will be shared with companies seeking to sell them things and with the comfort that the people who view what they post are those who've been allowed to see it.

The system is provided in three forms - grplife civic (for non-profit community service organizations), grplife community (for neighborhoods and other residential communities), and grplife church (for churches seeking to stay engaged with their parishioners). As more and more users discover the benefits of the system, we're gaining greater exposure and realizing the need to adequately address the response we're getting from those who enjoy using the service.

This campaign is our first - the aim is to raise funds to support the cost of resources being used to provide the service to those organizations which have recently partnered with us.

It's our desire to help build a healthier society and we believe that this mission begins with healthy communities, that healthy communities develop from healthy relationships, that healthy relationships are formed through healthy communication and that healthy communication begins with one's intentional efforts to engage those with whom they purpose to unite. We call this "intentional engagement" - grplife was designed to assist in achieving that ideal.

Risks and challenges

Being an online service, the true cost to operate is currently low. With a limited customer base and a rather reliable software platform, addressing their needs hasn't been a challenge. The difficulty, however, may grow as our number of customers and users grow.

Currently, we're finding that the level of adoption is high; the majority of those organizations that are introduced to the system choose to subscribe to the service. If these trends continue, our risk is that we won't be able to scale our team and system resources due to a lack of funding. Since, up to this point, we have been solely self-funded, it is foreseeable that personal funds will no longer be sufficient.
