Introducing ROOK-EEZ analog joystick cover and enhancer. Bringing true grip to your gaming experience.
Hi everbody! My name is Dylan Close and I'm the inventor of the ROOK-EEZ, a silicone accessory for video game console controllers. They are similiar in construction to a silicone cellphone cover. Made out of a rigid rubber that is still flexible enough to easily stretch over the analog joysticks of your controller. They were designed after the head of a rook chess piece. Imitating the knobby tops of a parapet, adding an extra amount of grip to your thumb and and a lip to get leverage from. The cover fits precisely to the head of the joystick with a simple twist after getting the lip of the bottom ring slipped over the edge of the joystick.
After desiging the prototype, we sent it through a series of testing to ensure proper clearance and drag, grip and leverage, sensitivity, ease of use, comfort, and the benefits of these additions with several video game genres. Our biggest success was with sports games and first person shooters where it definitely gave greater control with extended directional use in one direction, eliminating slippage of your thumbs on the sticks, and more precise control of aiming. some games required a increase of the sensitivity control to ensure that there wasn't a loss of quick response while other games it actually helped to eliminate overly sensitive contol. I personally have had a greater accuracy rate and increase of K/D ratio in games such as Battlefield. The use of slight downforce to keep your thumbs on the joysticks was another concern of ours. Have you ever accidently pressed the R3 button while playing a first person shooter? You know you have. I do it all the time. Without needing to use downforce to catch grip on the stick you have less chance of doing this. After about a week of getting use to them we find that we use less pressure on the top of the sticks and use the lip more for leverage so no more accidental R3 pressing and a decrease in thumb fatigue is the result as well.
After testing we came up with several other designs that let us know we can make these in any shape, as long as they don't interfere with the other buttons on the contoller. And we can cast in any color, with effects like metallic, camo, team colors, swirls, and in different textures. This is an idea that is very versatile and marketable and has created a lot of interest here locally. And they work on any controller from PS3, XBox, modded controllers, PC add on controllers with anolog joysticks, and every other controller we could get our hands on.
We have joined Kickstarter to see if we can drum up some support to help with an initial manufacturing of the product. The composition of the rubber we are using, though fully functional, should be cast in a type of rubber that can only be used on a industrial scale. A vacuum casting procedure needs to be used to produce exact replicas of the model in precise detail, using machine form casting. Doing these individually in my garage, in 100 degree plus temperatures cause unwanted defects in the surface of the pieces. and although fully functional they are not capable of being all they can be using this procedure. Not to mention it takes me approx a day and a half to cast a pair with no assurance that they will cure fully formed. We have spoken to a manufacture and setup distribution already but their demands for certain quantities are beyond my capability financially. Along with the other needs to help market the product and license it so they can be released world wide. My dream is to give everyone a chance at enhancing their gaming capabilities with the help of my invention, and I need your help Kickstarters to help me make this vision come true. Thank you very much for your time and interest in my product and your generosity and belief in me, and have a wonderful day!
