In 2010 two eager and curious art and design students, with a love of furniture design, saved an abandoned pile of pallets and started experimenting with them in the back of a garden in South London. Many months and many prototypes later, they had designed a fold-out chair and table.
The Pallet Chair and Pallet Table, as we came to be name them, combine strength of form with environmentally aware design. The designs are simple, essentially resembling small pallets that, with two simple movements, fold out into furniture.
After building the pallet chair and table we were left with the thicker parts of the pallets. Using these parts we designed the bigger and bolder XChair. This means there are no parts of the pallet that are left un-used!
We are passionate about the re-use of damaged or unwanted pallets, thousands of which continue to fill landfill-sites and litter streets in the UK. We do not purchase new pallets or use pallets that could be re-used.
Three years on we are more determined and focused than ever and we are prepared to give our all. Recycling waste and environmentally friendly products have more recognition now than ever before and they have a firm place in everyday life. We enjoy producing our furniture too much to let it be anything but a success.
With the funding we hope to get from our first Kickstarter project we will...
- Move out of our impractical workshop space and hire a studio with a proper work area and a weatherproof storage and dismantling space for the pallets.
- Buy better tooling for dismantling the pallets and producing the furniture.
- Most importantly...set up a weekly, more thorough, and wider 'search and rescue' for damaged and unwanted pallets.
Over this month we will then be able to produce the high quality, environmentally friendly furniture that we are so passionate about.
Every aspect of our process is done by hand. The pallets are dismantled and each piece of furniture is hand-made, assembled and painted at our site in London. All the nails from the dismantling process are kept and recycled and all the wood that is not used to make the Pallet Chair and Pallet Table is used to make the XChair.
As the timber we use has already been treated while living life as a pallet, only a small amount of treatment is needed on our products.
We have built our products countless times and tested them for durability and finish and have considered every sourcing, production and design detail. Despite being limited to our small makeshift space in South London, we have perfected a production process that is precise and efficient and we have produced chairs for a number of clients in and around London, including 12 chairs and tables for the new Google offices in Victoria, London. We are extremely focused and passionate about making furniture to the highest standard.
We have good relationships with local timber merchants who have been happy for us to take away their unwanted pallets.

DELIVERY OF REWARDS
If we are successful in our Kickstarter we expect to have a studio ready by the first day of March and begin shipping our products by the end of the month. From experience we will be able to produce approximately 20-25 Pallet Chairs, Tables and XChairs in 1 month

We would be able to have your furniture with you by early April 2013…ready for the summer!
We really hope that you can share our (somewhat strange) passion for pallets and eco-friendly design and hope you like our products and can be a part of helping us make this happen. This is our big chance and we can’t wait to get started and make this a big success…but we need your support! We are determined to make it happen!
Risks and challenges
We believe that we have already overcome all design related problems and we are comfortable with our production process
The only risk that we can foresee is the manufacturing time. Every part of our furniture is handmade and requires attention to detail and adequate time to complete, ensuring the highest quality. This can mean that some pieces (albeit very few) can take longer than expected, especially with the sometimes unpredictable timber we use.
We are confident that we have the experience and knowledge to efficiently overcome any other unforeseen problems that may arise and that we are able to produce high quality, beautifully built furniture in a timely manner.
During the manufacturing process we will keep in constant contact with our backers and keep them updated on the status on how things are going.
The success of this project depends heavily on getting the word out there. Every blog or social networking post counts, so please share. Thanks for taking the time to visit our project! We look forward to hearing from you all.
