The Unaccompanied Minor
Directed by Dody Disanto
Written and Performed by Elan Zafir
I have been wanting to write a solo show since my mother got divorced... so around 1978.
My story is about my son. A meditation on being 2000 miles away from the person you love.
My son flies on what's called the 'Unaccompanied Minor's Program." This means that beginning from the age of five—he has been able to fly from where he lives to where I live... ALONE.
(There are other people on the plane, but he doesn't know them.)
My goal is to take my solo show to the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival: the biggest theatre festival in the world! Garner some great reviews, slay a dragon, and bring the play back to the States where it will have another life.
I need to raise $3500 to cover costs of the production: transportation, advertising, housing, printing, publicity.
We have a great list of rewards at different tax-deductible donation levels to say THANK YOU for your support.
Risks and challenges
I land in Edinburgh on the 2nd of August... I open on the 4th.
With over 3000 plays to choose from at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and not having the money to purchase ads in the Guardian, Scotsman, Sun, or Daily Telegraph—I will need advertising.
I will be chatting with critics, producers, journalists, and audience members all morning, and all night... sometimes minutes before my show opens—just to get them in the door.
