About

Early Working Prototype
Early Working Prototype

Who is Bitman?

Bitman is a simple man, who just happens to possess a cool superhero name. (coincidence right?) He lives a small cottage with his girlfriend, Bitgirl (obviously) One night while the couple are sleeping, an evil man sneaks into their cottage and kidnaps Bitgirl, Bitman must travel across the land through forest, caves, mountains, meeting many friends who help him out with weapons, tools and witty advice and once he's had the adventure of a lifetime, he can finally free Bitgirl from the clutches of evil. He could just take a bus to the castle but well, that'd be boring.

For years, like many people, I (and the rest of the team involved) have dreamt about making our own games, we have spent many hours playing video games wishing we'd created those magical games, one day we decided to make those dreams a reality and started working on the concept of Bitman. The name was originally chosen as a project name while we thought of a name but the name just felt right for the game being made.

We are a new team who have come together to make Bitman and hopefully, with your help, create the next 2D mascot.

The team consists as me, I am lead designer and manager on the project. I have outsourced the art and graphics to some amazing artists who I trust will do Bitman justice. The other members of the team will be announced once contracts are finalised upon project funding.

What the team lack in experience when it comes to making games, they make up for with dedication to gaming and dedication to our new creation. With thousands of games played and tens of thousands of hours played between us we know what works in video games and what doesn't. We also don't have the cooperate suits upstairs breathing down our necks making us develop the game they want, this game is 100% our creation and we want you to be a part of it too!

 Why Are We Using Kickstarter?

When a game is developed it is usually funded by a publisher. Being a small indie company we don't have the backing of a big name publisher, nor do we want to create a brand new IP without the creative freedom we currently have. Publishers can influence and control the content and game the developers create and we want to develop Bitman into a series which can hopefully span more titles across all platforms so we chose to act as lone soldiers and self publish. We know asking someone to donate their hard earned money to a game they haven't played or seen is a huge ask but we want you to be as big of a part of this games development as we are. We will be keeping you up to date with development, we will be asking feedback, show casing the game over the coming months and if we can't settle on a certain aspect of the game we might even come to you guys and let you decide. We want you to be as involved as you can be without being sat in a chair next to us. Unfortunately by self publishing and using great websites like Kickstarter we run the risk of the game not being funded. If we don't get fully funded though, Bitman won't die, we will keep on creating and come up with new methods to fund this project whether it's creating smaller campaigns at later dates or even self funding and sleepless nights. This project will get finished, just with your backing we can deliver a much higher quality product.

Isn't £20,000 Too Low To Make A Game?

We have to agree, it'd probably cost more to hold a board meeting at one of the big development companies, for us, this is the minimum we'd need to be able to finish the game to standard we're satisfied with. We're taking steps to keep the costs down without sacrificing the quality of the game. We already own a lot, if not all, of the equipment needed for this project and extra expense will be very minimal, we have equated in the cost of licensing and publishing the game on the platforms and taxes etc. We will be working long and hard hours to complete this game but it's what is needed to get our foot in the door and make the game we will be happy with releasing to the public.

What Happens If You Reach Your Goal?

If we reach our goal, first off, we can't thank you enough for the support you have given us. Second of all, we keep working, if we exceed our target it will allow us to expand the team and create an even bigger game than originally planned. We want to create extra modes that will be unlockable and also free DLC which will expand the story even further. We would also love to release on extra platforms, we have intentions to release Bitman, or a spin off game, on all mobile platforms and we also want to see Bitman on Xbox One,PS4 and Wii U and by exceeding our stretch goals we can do that.

We might be able to do it anyway, depending on the success of the project, but it would  be later down the road, long after the original release. We want this game to be as full as it can be and to be able to reach as many people as it can from launch and with your help we can do that.

Stretch Goals

While most campaigns have stretch goals, we don't want to obligate you to pledge certain amounts to get access to extra content and possibly not release this content should we not meet those targets. If funding allows it then we want to make this game as big as possible.

There are plans for extra games modes including an Endless Challenge and Speed Run mode. There's also plans for a New Game+ and even a full DLC, we also aim to release on Steam, Android, iOS, Xbox One,PS4 & Wii U. We would love to be able to release on all these platforms but don't want to either withhold releasing on those platforms because we didn't meet a stretch goal or reach a goal and run into hurdles that prevent release on certain platforms. If it can be done we will do it.

Can I Get More Copies Of The Game Or Specify My Preferred Platform?

Of course you can! To get extra copies of the game just add more to the amount pledged and keep the same reward. For example, if you are pledging 5 for a digital copy of the game but you want 2 copies, then pledge 10 while leaving your reward the same. You will be sent an extra copy for each multiple of the pledge. 5 = 1 copy, 10 = 2 copies etc.

At the minute the game is only planned for release on PC, hopefully Steam pending Greenlight. However we would love to release on all Next Gen consoles and if we are able to do that we will be contacting all backers to ask for the platform you want the game for. If you've backed for multiple copies you can specify platforms for each copy so if you pledged 10 you could get a copy for Steam & Xbox One (pending release on both platforms)

How Else Can I Help?

Your support and contributions mean the World to us and will make dreams become reality but your contributions and support can extend beyond your pledges. Share this campaign on your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Youtube, any way you think you can share this project please do it.

Risks and challenges

As with all projects there are risks involved. Being a small team, if something unfortunate happens to one of us it could mean that the project comes to a stand still, but I have put measures in place to prevent that. I am contracting the artists involved so should the worst happen then I can source new artists to work on the project. Should something happen to me that causes the project to be never finished then all refunds will be given to all backers. I promise to be as careful as I can be during development. Measures will be put in place to ensure all refunds are given should the worst happen.
