What is the Bud-E?
The Bud-E project started a year ago when a frustrated Tareq Mirza was trying to untangle his earbud cord while talking on the phone with his friend Aaroon Sadat about 3D-Printing. That was the spark that set their combined ingenuity in 3D modeling, design, and invention towards designing a functional and creative solution to the tangled cord problem so many people encounter every day with their phones. After a year of development and several different designs that went through many iterations, the Bud-E earbud case was born.
Our goal is to use the advances in 3D-Printing technology to create innovative and original designs that are works of art, that also have utility. The Bud-E is the perfect first step along that journey.
It is only through your generous support that we can make this a reality.
First, we are looking to Kickstarter to help get the Bud-E to as many people as possible. This pre-release will help us finish the last round of changes and get the Bud-E done, and out to you!
Second, we need more than just your backing - we need your voice. Help us get the word out. Take to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr. Email your friends. Share the link to this page.
We love the Bud-E and hope you do too!
3D-Printing and Freeing Artists
This is an amazing time where the power of 3D-Printing\Additive Manufacturing has changed and will continue to change the landscape of how things are made and where they are made. This new technology is freeing artists and designers to make whatever they can dream up, and bring it to market, without the tremendous costs previously associated with traditional methods of manufacturing. We believe this new frontier will give back power to the artists, designers and creators. This revolution will take us from the Digital Age we have been living in and bring the imagination and creativity we have fostered there, back into the real world!
Here is a list of our rewards. We've got some great prices for Early Birds and have even included our previous earbud case design. In addition to the earbud cases, we've also added some high-end rewards, that may not be for sale after this Kickstarter campaign ends.
The Kitty Cat & Puppy Dog Bud-E Cases:
Both these cases are designed to support the traditional iPhone Earbud cords and the newer Earpod cords as well. The clean and cutely designed Bud-E opens to reveal housings for the Earbuds and spool to wrap your cord. Once wrapped you can either run the plug out the back to double as the tail of the figurine or close it up inside with the rest of the cord. When the front piece closes up the Earbuds/Earpods double as the figurines eyes, giving it a personality all its own, while your cord is safely packed away within the case.
The back has a belt clip that will allow you to easily carry the case around with you. The case can also be used to shorten or stabilize the cord while you use your Earbuds/Earpods.
The Vamp Head Bud-E Case:
The Vamp Head, after over a year of development was our first final product. The idea behind it started out as a cool sculpted head that opens from the mouth and allows you to store your Earbuds/Earpods cord inside it. It's a little bigger then the Cat & Dog cases, so isn't as portable, but if you like detailed sculpts and vampires, this one is for you.
The back of the Vamp Head also has a belt clip to allow you to carry it around with you.
This product may only be available for this Kickstarter! So get them now!
Colors and Materials:
The Kitty Cat, Puppy Dog, and Vamp Head Bud-E cases are all made of a strong flexible plastic through the 3D-Printing process of SLS(Selective Laser Sintering). 3D data of the sculpture is digitally sliced into thousands of micro-layers. Then, each micro-layer is successively sintered or fused by a laser until the final object is formed.
All the cases are initially 3D-Printed in white and color is added through a tinting process. This will also result in subtle variations in color from one case to another.
Colors available: White, Red, Pink, Purple, and Blue.
Stainless Steel Vamp Head Bottle Opener and Stand:
Because we loved the Vamp Head Earbud case so much, we made a version that works great as a Bottle Opener! And we really wanted to see it in Stainless Steel. Just line up the bottom teeth to the side of the bottle top and push the top teeth down over it and you are done. This would make a great addition to any kitchen, patio, or any place you plan on drinking. When not in use the head rests on its Stainless Steel stand. There's even a hole on either side of the head at the top, in case you just want to wear it around your neck on a chain. In fact, we encourage it! It's sure to turn heads. Let them know where you got it!
There will only be a limited quantity of these. That may change if we get a lot of interest.
Polished Silver and Gold Plated Brass Vamp Head and Stand:
For those who want nothing but the best, we added these two rewards to give you the chance to get the Vamp Head in these two great material choices. Due to the softness of Polished Silver and Gold Plated Brass, we don't recommend using these as bottle openers. They are for decorative use only. Showcase it on a table or adorn it around your neck on a chain, either way, these are serious bling.

Risks and challenges
We’ve taken into account things that could go wrong and taken measures to prevent them from doing so:
• Quality assurance. We’ve gone through many iterations of our products to work out all problems and ensure the products are durable and function as they are supposed to. We've 3D-Printed every version to make sure the manufacturing process produces accurate and durable models.
• Too many orders. If the project generated high order numbers could we satisfy the demand? Yes. We’ve talked to our provider, Shapeways, and anything between 50-1000 units will not affect the delivery time. Should there be more orders the demand can also be matched and would only cause the delivery time to be delayed 2 weeks at most.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
