** New reward added**
As the Sterling silver cufflinks have now sold out I have managed to obtain 100 sets of small circular watches. The watches are 16mm in diameter. If you add these onto an existing order please email me as I will need to reduce the number available.
I enjoy creating new items from old parts to give them a new lease of life and a chance to be used for years to come. I have 1000's of old vintage watch movements from Swiss and Russian watches that I would like to turn into unusual jewellery to ensure the movements are able to continue to be useful (and attractive) long after their role as a watch has finished.
I plan to attatch the watch movements to the cufflinks, rings, tie bars, lapel pins and necklaces using a industrial strengh cold weld epoxy. I have included photos of some of the items available below.
The plan for the future is to launch my own website selling my handmade items and hopefully this project will go some way to helping me fund this.
Risks and challenges
I have done my best to reduce any possible risks in this project. I identified that my main risk would be getting hold of a large amount of watches should a large number of backers support this. I have therefore obtained a large number of watches with the agreement to obtain a lot more if they are needed.
The main challenges for me will come if this project is successful. In agreeing to send the items out within a month of the project ending this will result in a lot of work for me. I have two others who are willing to assist if needed but hope that I would be able to complete most of the work myself.
I am sure there will be challenges and risks that I have not thought of yet, however I will work hard and have a wide range of support if needed to aid me in overcoming challenges and risks.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
No, the watches have been rescued from a life on the scrapheap, but unfortunately no longer work.
A few of you have asked about making pledges to get multiple items, after a bit of research it appears the best way to do this would be to increase your pledge amount to cover the items you want. For example if you wanted two sets of cufflinks @ £19, a ring @ £14 and a necklace @ £20 then you would pledge £72 for the three items (if you are outside the UK I will combine postage so you only need to pledge the £4 once)
The watch movements are not all exactly like the ones in the photos, some may have different symbols or numbers stamped in them. All the watches used in the first part of this project will be rectangular movements that are the same size and will look very similar to the ones in the photos.
