As you can see we updated the sleeves with a BLUE (It looks white on camera!) light to replace the RED light in the video. We noticed the BLUE light is easier to see outdoors.  

Our goal is to prevent knee injuries before they start. Whether you are recovering from a knee surgery or simply desire extra precaution, our product reads muscle activity and detects when too much force is applied on the knee while performing physical activity. 

Using our product will decrease the likelihood of stress and overexertion which can result in tears, strains and sprains in the knee ligaments.

The Radifit Dynamic Injury Protection (D.I.P) System is a 3 part approach to actively preventing injury by using real-time muscle data AND empowers trainers as well as physical therapists with an unparalleled amount of understanding about the forces being applied on the user's knee while engaging in physical activity. 

The D.I.P system proactively prevents injury by addressing the psychological and behavioral contributions to injury. The D.I.P System creates an objective reference point for understanding the forces endured by the knee joint for trainers, athletes, and even for those with no prior injuries. Our technology eliminates the guess work for trainers and allows users to exercise without fear of sustaining injuries caused by overexertion. 

A KNEE SLEEVE that acquires muscle signals surrounding the knee joint which vibrates and lights up when it records muscle activity that corresponds to a heightened likelihood of injury.

A MOBILE APPLICATION that uses inputs of the user's physical attributes provided by the user and muscle data from the knee sleeve to recommend rest time when the knee sleeve detects unsustainable amounts of forces being applied to the user's knee.  

An ONLINE DASHBOARD that archives any video data of the user and correlates it with the muscle data and alert triggers determined by the mobile application and knee sleeve. This allows trainers to access muscle activity and videos of athletes to target training around maneuvers that put that specific athlete at risk.

 We hope to one day evolve the sleeves to add a "locking mechanism" that will mechanically add support to the knee in real time as it detects vulnerability. We have already started the development of this feature and who knows, if we exceed our goals, maybe we will add it to your sleeve!

*DISCLAIMER* 

We, of course, cannot guarantee that the sleeves will prevent all injuries. Our products will however detect excessive forces being placed on the knee and gives the user real time feedback which enables the user to adjust their activity accordingly. 

Risks and challenges

-Validation of the market-
In addition to this Kickstarter, to validate the market for this project & product, we are in the process of getting feedback from over 100 potential customers (including orthopedic medical professionals) to assess the frequency of injury, the impact on their patients, how they feel about current ways to decrease the chance of injury and if there is an urgency to prevent injury.

We have spoken to one children’s hospital; they expressed a great sense of urgency for preventing re-injury for young athletes that have recently undergone surgery. They created a “pre-habilitation” program around re-injury prevention that, as we were informed, is already replicated in other children’s hospitals. This gives us some confidence that there is an increasing sense of urgency in the area of re-injury of youth athletes.

-Validation of the solution-
We researched why/how non-contact orthopedic injuries occur from over 90 research publications in the biomedical/bio-mechanical field. With that research in mind, we built and tested 3 different prototypes until we found a design that proved to have an accurate reading of muscle force on 3 different body types (an under-weight adult male, an overweight youth female and an adult female in the recommended weight range with previous knee surgery).

We would like to undergo testing on a larger range of body types prior to going to bringing the sleeves to market.

-Optimization of Design-
We have verified that our design meets FDA and FCC criteria for distribution and we, for the benefit of our early adopters and those that follow, would like to undergo a design phase to optimize comfort, functionality and ease of use of both the mobile application and knee sleeve with beta testers prior to shipping production units.

-Optimization of Manufacturing-
Our product incorporates software and hardware components. Therefore, we require a separate manufacturer to integrate the electronics. As a result, we will manufacture the sleeves in the United States, specifically in the hometown of our founders which will facilitate supervision and ensure our sleeves are shipped on time and in spec.
