About this project
Thursday May 8th - I have reached my £7000 goal! Thanks to everyone involved in any way in helping to make this dream a reality. Several hours remain, and this project remains open to further pledges. Any further pledges will be gratefully received, and will go towards the design and promotional costs.
Last 4 days! Sincere thanks to anyone who has pledged thus far. I’m feeling the positive vibes!
- Still chance to pre-order my Diary book for £16 (inc p&p) AND be thanked on the Credits page. (This is a cheaper price than will be offered when the book launches)
- Lots of great rewards still to be had at great prices.
- This is the LAST CHANCE to get a copy of my 2011 Peter Andre Saliva Tree book – I have decided to close the edition when this campaign ends.
- I have also decided that all backers who pledge (or have previously pledged) £100 or more will be included in the ‘Special Thanks’ section of the credits page!
Hello, I'm Peter James Field. In late 2014, with your help, I intend to publish a 200 page hardback A5 book of my drawings in a limited edition of 1500. It will be a beautifully produced, section sewn art book printed in full colour throughout - and will contain the handpicked highlights of my ten year observational drawing project.
The diary began in early 2004. Originally intended as a week long experiment, it is still going ten years later. Each month six of the latest entries are shared on my website - making a treasury of over 700 captured moments. Other pages have remained unseen in the archive til now.
I have, since the early days of the project, had the dream of seeing this body of work published in a book form. It was always intended to be seen in this way. For a book so personal, I have decided that, for this initial edition at least, it is appropriate to self-publish.
The book is being designed by award winning London-based studio The Entente, with whom I collaborated on two smaller edition artists books (Numbers, 2009 and Peter Andre Saliva Tree, 2011). These two initial books were a success, and have been sold in many specialist bookstores internationally. This book will allow me not only to capitalise on these firmly established links with independent sellers, but also to vastly increase this network of stockists
My funding goal is £7000, which will cover the proofing and printing costs. (I will meet the costs of design and promotion.)
If I am fortunate enough to exceed this goal, any extra funding will help me to promote the book - and may also allow me to consider extending the print run.
All my backers will receive a News Update e-mail once a month between the end of this campaign and the release of the book, to keep them informed of the progress of production.
I have prepared a variety of rewards for pledges to this campaign. These can be viewed to the right hand side of this page. UK rewards will be sent via Royal Mail Signed For First Class (Rewards for pledges of less than £14 will be sent First Class Standard). Pledge amounts are inclusive of shipping costs within the UK. International rewards will be sent via International Standard, and an additional postage fee is charged with each overseas pledge. Here are some additional details:
Postcard sets feature a random selection of diary pages, and are printed on 350gsm smooth gloss Chlorine-free paper stock
Greetings cards sets (with envelopes) are printed on thick satin paper stock, uncoated inside for your greeting.
The Diary Book will be a 208 page, section sewn hardback volume, printed in full colour throughout. 140mm wide x 170mm high. Designed by The Entente.
When it's released, I expect this 200 page full colour hardback book to be sold via my online shop (including p&p) at £20. Backers who pre-order it via this Kickstarter have the special chance to receive it (inc p&p) at £14/£16 - AND have their names listed as backers in the 'credits' section.
Ordering multiple copies: The Diary Book will make a great gift, so I would encourage backers to pre-order more than one. Kickstarter guidelines state that a maximum of ten can be purchased in one pledge. To order more than one copy, select the 'Pledge £16 or more' option on the right and pay for as many copies as you would like e.g. If you would like two, pledge £32. Drop me a line at email@example.com to confirm the quantity of your request. (Only one name per order can be added to the 'Credits' page)
Peter Andre Saliva Tree Book is an A4 concertina book (seen in the Kickstarter video, above) which connects Peter Andre to two hundred celebrities via affairs and marriages. 8 A4 pages, black and white / 2 colour cover. Printed on Risograph, edition of 250. All copies signed and numbered.
Numbers Book is an A5 stapled book of themed lists, containing famous or infamous people ranked according to various criteria (e.g. height / hits / marriages). 24 black and white pages / card cover / A3 fold-out 'index' sheet containing the names of everyone featured. Printed on Riosograph, signed. The 10 copies offered here are from my own personal set of proofs - and are in mint condition.
Picture Discs. Five pairs of original 7" single releases by Artmagic, a musical collaboration between producer Sean McGhee and Suede guitarist Richard Oakes. (www.artmagicmusic.com / graphic design by David Darlington)
Limited Edition Prints. 'Level Crossing' print - Paper size 209mm wide x 284mm high / Image size 177mm wide x 236mm high. 'Rainy Hove' print - Paper size 320mm square / Image size 270mm wide x 280mm high. Unframed, hand-numbered and signed in pencil on the front. Produced using the giclee (art-quality inkjet) process on 310gsm acid free Hahnemuhle German Etching paper.
Portraits. My black and white portraits have featured in publications as diverse as The Sunday Times, Dazed and Confused, Time Magazine and Vanity Fair. I can create a bespoke hand-drawn portrait of you or a loved one from supplied photo reference. I will contact backers of this pledge amount in person to discuss my requirements and recommendations regarding the photo reference, so that I can produce the perfect portrait.
Risks and challenges
Although it is my goal to have the book printed and launched before Christmas 2014, any publishing project of this nature inevitably carries the risk of time delays, many of which may be outside of my control. My production schedule has left a long and safe time window for proofing, printing and shipping of the books - but quality is always paramount. If (for example) the proofing stage has to over-run while colours and layouts are tweaked, it may then become inevitable to overshoot our projected publication date of Nov 14. I will of course keep all my backers fully apprised of any changes to the release schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I want to take advantage of the £14 reduced price book (one per backer) but I'd like to pre-order several copies. How do I do this?
Add up the cost of how many books you'd like, bearing in mind the first one is £14 and the others will be £16. Click the '£14 reward' box, and enter the total as your pledge amount.
e.g. If you'd like three books, its £14 + £16 + £16. Click the £14 reward box, and enter £46 as your pledge amount. I should be able to work out from this how many books you'd like, and will message you to confirm. Alternatively, you can send a confirmation e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
Using a credit or debit card the process should be the same as with other standard online payments - but if you have any specific questions please e-mail me on email@example.com
The main difference to other online shopping transactions is that payment isn't instant - no-one's card will be charged until the last day of the campaign, and ONLY IF I reach 100% of my funding goal. If you don't wish to enter your card details then you can pay me by alternative means (cheque, cash) and I will get a friend to add the pledge amount to my total on your behalf.
Any cheque/cash pledges will of course not be cashed or spent until the end of the campaign - if I am unsuccessful you have my word that these will be returned.
