I'm a food and travel writer who fell into a job with an orchard. Most days, it's one of the best things that's ever happened to me. This June will mark my fourth season working for the orchard, and my third season blogging about it at http://www.fruitslinger.com.
For years, I would shop at farmers markets and ask myself what life must be like on the other side of the table. The blog is my answer to that question, my way of sharing the unique perspective that my job on the farm and at the farmers market affords me.
The blog started out being for a few friends. Last year, I had modest success improving the blog and attracting a wider audience. This year, I'd like to do even better.
Toward that end, I'm seeking funding for two key aspects:
1. A more robust hosting service. Blogger was good, but Squarespace is so much more flexible and so much easier to work with.
2. A DSLR camera. Photos are a big part of the site. There are some good ones up there now. But they could be better. I love my point-and-shoot Canon, but I'm at the limits of what it can do.
Here are a few sample Fruit Slinger posts:
... about my time on the farm:
... my time at the farmers markets:
... and my time in the kitchen:
The story of the farm, the markets, and the people and foods that flow from them is a story worth telling and worth telling well, so I'm asking for your support. You can contribute as little as $2. As you can see from the rewards to the right, there's a little something in it for you should you decide to contribute more.
I hope that backers of any level and non-backers alike enjoy the blog.
