Brooklyn's Akoya is poised to make a brand new vinyl (and digital) album of heavy, full sized Afrobeat.
Akoya Afrobeat is getting ready to get back into the studio this year, but we need your help! We have two great new extended Afrobeat compositions that are ready to record. Now we just need to raise the money to make it happen.
We are planning to track live in a nice big, room at BPM in Brooklyn and press the two songs as side A and B on vinyl. It is going to sound awesome! We're asking for donations totaling $9,000 to cover the costs of recording, mixing, mastering the record, vinyl pressing, getting great artwork from legendary Nigerian artist Lemi Ghariokwu, publicizing the album, and for travel expenses (one of us lives in California these days). In return for you help, we are offering a ton of great rewards, which you can learn about to the right.
If you don't know about Akoya, we are a Brooklyn, NY-based band made up of 15 musicians from all over the world (Nigeria, Benin, Botswana, Japan, South Africa and America). We've been working to keep the legacy of Fela Kuti alive and vibrant since 2002 and are excited to throw our hat into the ring once again. Please check www.akoyamusic.com for more information. Thanks for your support!
6/21 UPDATE: We only have until the morning of June 30th to get to our goal, so we are proudly announcing the !!!END OF CAMPAIGN SPECIAL!!!
