A digital ruler that can be customized for Architects, Designers and Builders. Never have difficulty with scales or units again! Now that the Kickstarter is over pre order through Indiegogo in the link below.
A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

The Smart Scale Ruler is the product of one interior designer's strong belief that paper is too primitive a thing to be creating obstacles for modern-day professionals. Technology has solved so many problems, yet from time to time, we find ourselves standing in front of a set of drawings and not being able to read them properly. This should not be the case!
My name is Joanne Swisterski, and I am that interior designer. I knew there had to be a better way, so I thought of one!
What the Smart Scale Ruler aims to do is solve 3 main problems that waste time and cause frustration in the industry.
1 - Not being able to read out of scale drawings
2 - The struggle of understanding metric and having to deal with imperial drawings (or vise versa)
3 - Dividing areas into equal spaces when manually drafting.
This function allows you to take a drawing that was printed out of scale and measure it as though it was perfectly to scale. This is made possible by using the sliding pointer. Line up the start of a known dimension (point A) with the fixed pointer. Move the slider to the end of the dimension (point B). Input the distance it represents, your desired units and hit enter. The screen will regenerate itself to the new custom scale
This function allows you to convert the screen between metric and imperial. For example, if you've received a drawing in imperial, and you're more comfortable with metric, tap the convert button and the long screen regenerates to the metric version of whatever was on the screen previously, or vice versa.
This function is is applicable when you need to divide a space into a number of equal sections. For example, if you have to make 4 equally spaced lines on a drawing, instead of working out the math separately you simply follow the same steps as the with the custom scale section above. Move the sliding pointer across the distance that requires dividing. Input 4 on the number pad and the ruler will display 4 equally spaced notches on the screen.
Over the years, I've come to see how much money these problems can add up to very quickly. As one case study shows:
1 - There are 2 clients in a meeting at their house regarding the plans for the new house they plan to build (their time is valued at $200/hour)
2 - There is one senior and one junior designer/architect/builder present (time valued at $200/hour and $100/hour respectively)
3 - The client said they would bring the plans, but when they're presented, they have printed from an email on the wrong paper size. There aren't any dimensions on it, and you cannot use a traditional scale to measure it
4 - The 2 hour meeting is then spent based on estimates and assumptions about dimensions. When they return to the office and are able to scan and properly scale the drawings, their assumptions have been incorrect in a few critical areas, and ultimately nothing they had discussed with the clients can actually be used.
Time Lost- 2 hours
Money Lost- $1,400
I've spent the past 2 years working with talented and dedicated designers and engineers through the concept, mechanical, electrical, software and manufacturing process. This device is meant for technical usage, and therefore has to be very precise. We're working through countless details to make sure it's ergonomic, light weight, user friendly, has a long battery life and is very easy on the eyes!
This is a product that has been a labor of love, which is why I'm so excited to be finally presenting it to everyone for pre-purchase!
I've spoken to many of you already and am aware that you're anxiously anticipating this product (no one more than me, I promise!). Once the goal is reached, every piston will be firing and every gear will be turning to get it to your door as quickly as possible! All the wheels are ready to be set in emotion, what we need is your support to get them rolling!
The funds for this project will be used to pay for the tooling of the screen and the body, continued engineering support and last but not least, the minimum order quantity!
Some of the media outlets that have supported the product so far are below!

Risks and challenges
The video showcases the product and it's functions so that investors may better understand the concept. Please note that this is a non-functioning prototype. Meaning, the screen only appears to work through the magic of visual effects. It is very convincing, I know!
As we go through developing the functional prototypes, there may be small design changes along the way. Most of these are attributed to a generous amount of feedback from future buyers.
We have been taking all of the feedback into serious consideration, and the resulting alterations mean that the appearance may vary from the video. The final product you will receive will be the best version of the Smart Scale Ruler possible, containing all of the same functions and more!
We are in very close communication with the factory that will be producing the Smart Scale Ruler on a regular basis and discussing the movement forward. All of the components have been verified, quotes reviewed and timelines established. They are ready to go as long as the funds are provided!
A huge thank-you!! Your pledge is greatly appreciated! All donations go directly to offsetting the initial costs of tooling and production. Your name will be added to the digital wall of fame and you'll be kept up to date with the progress of the Smart Scale Ruler!
