About this project
My name is Adam Campbell. I was born and raised in the Midwest and have had a lifelong interest in art while studying metaphysics and meditation. I was a student and teacher with the School of Metaphyscis in Windyville, Missouri, for several years before studying art at the University of Arkansas with an emphasis in painting.
The project I am promoting is called The Hive, which is a series of portraits unified by the theme of collective consciousness. To express this, I'm depicting people who share a common purpose. What excites me about this is that painting individuals gives me the opportunity to use my skill as a representational artist, while expressing their common purpose requires abstract thinking. The portraits will convey people's characteristics realistically while shifting in and out of abstraction to suggest the absorption of individuals into a group identity. The first group is comprised of volunteer farmers at the TriCycle community farm.
TriCycle Farm is a sustainable, community farm in the city limits of Fayetteville, AR, dedicated to providing and sustaining food security by farming, teaching others to farm, and helping people start their own gardens.
Beekeeping is a part of TriCycle Farm that fascinates me, visually and conceptually. In honor of the honeybee, The Hive will be comprised of nineteen individual portraits painted on hexagonal, framed panels approximately 16" wide assembled together to form a honeycomb mosaic that can be rearranged into different patterns.
I am asking for $4,000 to cover the cost of the studio, top quality materials to insure the color-fastness and overall longevity of the work, the services of a professional picture framer, and the cost of producing and shipping the perks for supporting this project. Materials include oil paint and oil painting mediums as well as hardware and lumber for the frames and painting surfaces.
All of the perks I am offering are either one-of-a-kind works of art or prints of my work only available through me.
