About
They came for the beer. They stayed for the brains.
When a powerful hurricane hits Asheville, North Carolina, the microbrewery capital of the south, gallons of contaminated coal ash spill into the city's water supply and turn the citizens of Asheville into flesh-eating zombies on the eve of Asheville's annual zombie walk. With the local government covering up the spill in the name of profit, Piper, a hardworking barista; her weather-loving brother, Fitz and Jerry, a homeless Iraq veteran, form an unlikely trio desperate to save the city they love from becoming a city of the dead.
A Message from Co-Creator and Executive Producer David Huff:
Last fall, during a stay at a friend’s condo in downtown Asheville, Dead Brew Movie struck me like an attack from the living dead. Old buildings, dark alleyways, empty riverfront warehouses, breweries, coffee houses and hordes of hipsters make Asheville the perfect movie set. In fact, Asheville has provided the set for many popular films including Masterminds, Our Fellow Americans, Being There, Hannibal, and the new Dirty Dancing. What we’ve not had yet is a zombie movie!
The best horror movies, especially zombie movies, serve as allegories. They speak to the larger issues facing individuals and society. Dead Brew is no different. We tap into climate change, corporate greed and corrupt politicians. Our hero faces her own demons as she tries to carve out an existence in a world that is too often uncaring and hostile while maintaining her own sense of humanity and dignity. I believe that we each have it within ourselves to rise up to the challenges we face. This is an important element of our story. We want to entertain and scare the hell out of you... But we also want to inspire people to claim their own sense of personal power and make this a better world.

Dead Brew marks a return to filmmaking for me after a 10-year hiatus. I have hit the restart button to come back to a creative genre I love. The coolest part of this project is the community of people who have offered their time, talents and resources to help me make this a reality.

This is another theme in our story: you don’t need to go it alone in this world. The best efforts always involve a community of dedicated and talented people who, given the chance, will go beyond the call of duty to tell a great story.
Here’s what your financial support will allow us to do:
- Throw some cash at our hardworking screenwriter.
- Hire a producer to do a breakdown and create a budget.
- Put together a development package for investors.
- Get this project launched!
Consider yourself part of our Dead Brew community. I cannot do this without you.
Thank you for your support!

Risks and challenges
Filmmaking is a risky business. We could fall flat on our faces. However, we do believe that our timing is perfect. The themes of the movie are increasingly common in the media and the zombie genre is a popular one.
