                                               Introduction

Hi, my name's Jake Anderson.  I trace bathroom graffiti from nasty café bathrooms and find gems among them - graffiti that will make most people laugh, think, or smile.

I then give the tracings to fine artists who re-create it into works of art. They keep the graffiti in the foreground and their art in the rest of the image.

                                                     Book

This book will be composed of 125 bathroom graffiti photographs from 20 different English-speaking cities around the world, coupled with the re-worked art by the artists (each one from each of the cities).  The reader can see how the image goes from a nasty, cluttered, usually low-lit bathroom wall into a work of fine art.  The book will also include an introduction by THE authority on bathroom graffiti in the United States -Mark Farem - who published a photographic book on bathroom graffiti that went into Barnes and Noble in 2011.  Finally, the book may include a few essays by sociologists commenting on bathroom graffiti.

The book itself is super sexy.  Its full color, glossy white pages, hardcover, and will have a barcode, ISBN, etc.  The works!
It'll go amazing on your coffee table!

Please consider helping out.  Thanks!

Costs of Project

Collecting the Graffiti from 20 cities:  $4,000

That's the costs of the manuscript

Printing the books will cost $17/book for a lot of 1,000, so $17,000 plus $2,000 in indesign costs to have it professionally done.

Where this will be paid from

Kickstarter - $3,500

Private Investor - $20,000 ONLY if kickstarter is a success, ie I can prove demand

Working at Subway for a year and giving all the money to the project covers the rest.

Risks and challenges

Its GUARANTEED that you will get a book if you support it at the $35 level and if the kickstarter is 100% funded or better. The only real risk is timing. It will take six months or so to shop around the manuscript to publishers, but if it isn't accepted by traditional publishers you'll get a really nice self-published book soon. I'll really try to get it out within a year. The original artworks and pdf copies will DEFINITELY be out in less than a year!

FAQ

  • It costs quite a bit of money to ship to places like Australia but this is an option. Just message me and we can work out the details. Thanks
