A historic coffeeshop in the heart of Carytown, Capital Coffee & Desserts is a habitual caffeination destination for a number of long-standing Richmond residents. Sugar & Twine seeks to carry on Capital Coffee's mission to serve the local community, only improving the space and bringing some fresh energy to the scene.
With your help, we'll be able to put a fresh coat of paint on the walls, re-do the flooring, create a more comfortable workspace and consolidate the pastry case into an organized display. I've come up with the funds to buy the bakery and I have the skills to make you delicious pastries; now all I need is a little help to turn the current seating area into a more comfortable and inviting environment for you to sit and enjoy yourselves.
I'm thrilled to share my craft with you and promise that you'll be able to taste the difference. From hand pies to danish, cookies to cakes, Sugar & Twine will deliver deliciousness for all to enjoy.
Special thanks to all who helped in preparing this campaign, most notably the VCU film students that dedicated a good portion of their summer to making the video for me!
Risks and challenges
I don't know of a project in the food industry that comes without risks and challenges. It's those risks and challenges that make the reward at the end so sweet! This space hasn't been given the attention it deserves, and so it's possible that we'll run into some surprises as we start scrubbing the floors.
That being said, our goal is pretty simple: to take a successful business and make it better. I know that with a little elbow grease and a lot of hard work, we'll pull this off and be ready to welcome you into your new community space by the end of October.
I've been part of a start-up crew before, helping to create BAKESHOP in Portland, Oregon, with Kim Boyce. The struggle is only temporary as we figure out what systems work and what systems need to be created in order to make the business succeed. I'm convinced that by creating a warmer, more welcoming environment as well as improving the coffee program, we'll win over some new customers and continue to be an integral part of the Carytown network.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
