Episode 8: Custom Dice, and Tanks vs Spies
Long! Beach! Weekend!
For those of you US robot fans on the coasts. Either way, remember to pay respect to the many great folks that built the present we're all standing in.
Short (normal-sized!) update today. If you're a lovely new backer, take the time to check the previous updates for:
- World lore! Sigaea's a pretty intense place.
- The different robot classes! It's the backbone of the game!
- Combining! And why it's cool!
- Card-reading tutorials! In case you haven't checked out various game-play videos.
Awesome Art Rising
The quest to upgrade all lingering pre-2015 art continues as part of our Art Upgrade Stretch Goal Series. Every Sunday, along with sporadic minisodes, we jump onto Twitch and illustrate these new art pieces in real time! While discussing AEGIS, the game-play, the lore, the campaign, and everything else. Today at 1pm EST the tradition continues! Tune in or skim the replays over at Twitch.tv/ZephyrWorkshop
Also...! Jump into MS Paint or pick up your gouache brushes! Submit your art to beat up Etwal and force him to get a new robot! Etwal is the last Commander with ye olde art on his Basic-level robot, and this one will be redone by Maung Thuta, who's done many of our more impressive pieces. Shoot them at us on Facebook and Twitter.
New Goals! Custom Dice
You asked for it, and thus you shall receive! At $44,500, all Deluxe backers get custom-molded dice in their boxes. Our goal with these is to not only glam up your AEGIS games, but to make them cool enough so that you can use them in any theme-appropriate d6-heavy game! These designs and colors are not final, but obviously we will be shooting to get the nicest in five-color dice for you, because thematic resonance is important. We'll also be putting up multiple design choices after the campaign ends for you guys to vote on.
Note on Deluxe Boxes: I've added 65 more to the Pledge Tier, bringing the grand total to around 500. As stated on stream and in some comments, we've been keeping this tier capped for production reasons. Once this tier fills up again, we will make the decision to either uncap it (AKA up our order of Deluxe Boxes from 500 to 1000+) or keep it capped at that.
Commander Intros Vol. II: Gamound vs. Ixa
Last time on AEGIS: Ainer and Etwal have it out for each other. One started the war, and now the other dominates it.
We also touched on how each Commander in the game has a pre-constructed team you can play with right out of the box for ease of use, based around different strategies. With that in mind, let's touch on...
The absolute defense and the sneakiest spy. Gamound defends his nation's largest border, while Ixa seeks knowledge and power through infiltrating all the nations of Sigaea.
Gamound is the Western General of the Great States. Boisterous and promoted by clerical error, he's a tactical genius who reinvents warfare as he wages it.
He defends mainly against the Empyreal Realm, and is traditionally Etwal's greatest foe, but Gamound also keeps his border locked down, fending off the stealthy and malicious Iris Dominion in order to help maintain his nation's independence. He knows a strong defense is the best offense. With a team that focuses on artillery fire, positioning defenses, and throwing its weight around, Gamound has earned his spot being responsible for battles against the Empyreal Realm.
Gamound’s team is equipped with stellar defense, long range attacks, and Push and Pull actions, perfect for the patient player who wants the enemy to come to them. He's available to play with in the Tabletop Simulator demo!
As the Prime Possessor of the Iris Dominion, Ixa is a formidable enemy. A master thief, head hunter and infiltrator, she hunts and procures hundreds of targets per year, living and inanimate. - all for the secretive work for her home nation. She's known across the globe, but her name is never spoken of aloud.
Infiltration is the name of the game for Ixa, and that is reflected in her battle strategy. With stealth and speed, Ixa’s team fights to win while seeming to have never been there at all. Ixa’s premade team utilizes Cloaking and disables foes so that other ally robots can pick enemies off easily. With high movement and quick attacks, Ixa’s team works well as a strike force that goes in and out quickly and effectively.
With the Iris Dominion partially responsible for the Great States’ creation, Gamound defends his country's integrity, not just from Empyreal Realm assaults, but from the Dominion’s influence. Meanwhile, Ixa quietly and loyally satiates her nation's craving for knowledge and power, slipping in and out of the Great States while Gamound sleeps. Though the two have never seen each other's faces, they have a mutual target: Etwal.
That wraps up the Core Box Four set of Commanders, now we'll be moving on to the ones unlocked via Stretch Goals!
NEXT TIME: Game Modes + Lightning Chaser Expansion
