About this project
Upstate Stock was born out of simple fact that American manufacturing of the highest quality is still out there, the same manufacturing from decades ago that is both at a standard that very few countries can match, but also affordable. At Upstate Stock we are to attempting bring these goods in to a market that they have never had access to in the past. The manufacturer we've partnered with, located in upstate New York, has been making knit accessories since 1946, and has made items for both for the military and NYPD. It is our goal to bring these amazing products to the contemporary market, giving the factory a new avenue for sales, and our customers access to quality USA made goods.
OUR GOAL : our base goal will allow Upstate Stock to expand sales to new markets with a proper budget for international tradeshows, a web store, and new product development.
Established in 1946, the factory we've partnered is 100% family owned and operated. Located in the Adirondack area of upstate NY, the family that owns it has 4 generations worth of history in the knit accessories business. It is 100% American owned, with the majority of the employees having worked there for over a decade.
Made on Shima Seiki machines that have been in use since the 1970's, the gloves are literally spit out of them according to settings inputted by the engineer. These Japanese machines have a rich history in the United States and the link between the Japanese and American knitting industries is a strong one.
Once they come out of the Shima Seiki's, they are "unfinished" around some of the seams. So, they go off to the finishers, where they are 100% hand sewn to ensure quality.
After they are they get the full wash and dry treatment to pre-shrink and tighten the yarn to increase durability.
Once the gloves come out of the dryer, they are sent off to the "hand formers" - metal hand busts which the gloves stretched out on to restore the original shape that the washing process has taken out of them - so that you won't get an irregularly shaped glove.
Lastly, Then they are sent off to be hang tagged, also done by hand and pass through a final quality control assessment ..if the gloves not perfect...it gets marked as a "second" and is donated to a charity.
All of our Upstate Stock tags are sewn on by hand in Midtown NYC and are not meant to last. We are not big on branding so please feel free to cut the tag off, we won't mind...it's about the product, not the tag.
Upstate Stock utilizes two products out of Ragg Wool, gloves and hats. It's a mixture of Wool and Nylon, as the two fabrics have similar properties and take dye in a similar fashion. It's not only durable, but also much softer than regular Wool.
All Deerskin used by Upstate Stock is sourced locally by the manufacturer in upstate and is ethically harvested. It is painstakingly hand sewn on to each glove and involves a lengthy process of individually sewing each finger on, one at a time. Each glove is labelled with a 100% Deerskin hang tag.
Watchcaps & Beanies
100% USA Wool, the watchcaps are snug fitting in the classic Navy fashion and are incredibly warm. Why use 100% Wool? Because that's the way it's always been done, and if t's good enough for the armed forces, it's good enough for us.
None for the Ragg Wool. Beat them up! For 100% Wool items such as the watchcaps, we recommend dry cleaning only, as the shrinkage can be considerable.
All shipments will be USPS. International shipments will be expedited.
PRE XMAS DELIVERY #1
Risks and challenges
To put it bluntly, this ain't our first rodeo. Both the manufacturer and Upstate Stock have been doing this for a long time, and we know the most important part of this whole process is getting you the goods in a timely manner.
Our pre-Xmas delivery is a gamble that is dependent more on the USPS than us, so please keep that in mind when ordering. We will have the items ready after the first week of the Kickstarter so we will ship out just before the Kickstarter ends.
Any concerns, you can always message us!!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
