A new collaboration: Dwight Rhoden and ELEW
Following our hugely successful collaboration in 2011, I will again work with virtuoso pianist and music revolutionary ELEW - (Eric Lewis) on a second collaborative new work to premiere Nov 13 - 25th 2012 - at Complexions Contemporary Ballet's New York Season at the Joyce Theater. This new work for three couples will show love from an EXTREME point of view— that will range from blissful to tragic. The consequences of passion, both good and bad will show the fine line that is ever present at the height of sensation.
ELEW and I have joined forces in a more intense way this season - as ELEW has been named Composer in Residence at CCB for the next 5 years. This newly formed collaboration will bring a new work every year through 2017 and gives way to deepen an already fantastic creative chemistry evident in last year’s What Come, Thereafter.
This new work will take the immediacy of the time in which we live, and lend form and shape to the idea of LOVE and the moments that live in our heads and hearts. These intimate feelings and emotions break through the surface between people and expose their plight — through a physicality that exemplifies the ephemeral nature of the dynamics of relationships in today’s world.
Constructed with a gripping pulse that flies, slides, and roars both visually and sonically— this new work will start with a linear time line at first, and then warp it. ELEW and I want to place the viewer inside of the work, where he or she will be wrapped up in the intensity of a whirlwind journey and then dropped off in surprising places.
ELEW and I have decided to approach Kickstarter for funding as a way to reach out to our many loyal supporters in the best way possible. Whether you are a former student of Complexions, someone who has attended one of ELEW’s or Complexion’s performances somewhere across globe or are simply one of our 23,000 value Facebook friends, any amount that you can give is truly appreciated. We’ve also come up with benefits for those who are more passionate about our work: Complexions magnets, season posters, signed cards, photo albums by Complexions’ Associate Artistic Director, Jae Man Joo, or even invitations to rehearsals with the Company!
All donations are deductible and donations of any size are truly appreciated! I’d urge you to check back after your first donation and make sure we reach our goal by DATE, because if we don’t then this amazing collaboration may remain just a dream!
My sincere thanks for your support,
