Thank you for visiting my Kickstarter page.
Many of you know me as a musical dancer. I have danced all my life and my involvement with music has been an unexpected and joyful outgrowth of this path.
I have self produced a total of nine CDs previously, two of which, have received Hawai’I Music Awards, “A Walk by the Sea” (Best World Music) and “Ndoro” (Best Album Artwork). I love making music, and want to share it with as many people as I can.
I fell in love with the music of the mbira (pronounced mm-bee-rah) 12 years ago. Mbira is a mystical form of music from Zimbabwe. The instrument and its repertoire can be traced back well over 1000 years. Mbira music is played for pure enjoyment as well as for ceremonies of personal healing and meditation. Its sounds are at once complex, hypnotic and majestic.
I have studied this music both in the US and in Zimbabwe with master players. There are so many beautiful songs, and I would love to record more of them! But, times are difficult for many of us, including independent artists. It is difficult to produce a quality project in this economic climate without the support of my community. So, this is why I am asking that you consider making a donation to bring this album into the world.
Here is a breakdown of what your pledges would pay for:
- $3,500 Studio recording
- $1,000 Mixing and Mastering
- $500 Graphic design and layout
- $1,000 Pressing CDs
This budget covers making the album only. Every dollar raised over $6,000 will be used for promotion and to make the finished project as amazing as possible.
In addition, by
donating to this project, you will be supporting the effort to increase the
exposure of this unique and healing musical tradition to a whole new community.
If you decide to donate, you will see that each level of donation will be rewarded with everything from hand-rolled incense, copies of previous works, and hand-crafted African jewelry, to the chance to be an official Executive Producer of the album. And of course, with any level of donation you will have my deep gratitude.
Backers will be kept up-to-date with exclusive news and photos.Tentatively scheduled for a September 2012 release, this album will be a big part of the planned festivities for this, the 30th anniversary year of my teaching dance and music.
So, please spread the word! Tell your family and friends. Every dollar really does count!
Oh, and there is one big caveat to all of this – if we fall short of our goal, even by one dollar, then the project will not go through. Every dollar really does count!
Maitabasa! Thank you all in advance for your support!
Please note: INTERNATIONAL BACKERS must add an additional $15 to every pledge of $25 or more for overseas shipping and handling.
