About

What happens when you're late to your own coming out party? This coming of vag story follows three women as they try to adjust to life outside the closet. Add one gay uncle to the mix, and you've got yourselves a comedy of lesbian errors.

Hopefully by now, you’ve seen our pilot episode, and if you’re here, we hope that means you’re hungry for more! There are a total of 7 episodes in season 1, and we need your help to make that happen!

Almost everyone (that we know) can relate to the awkwardness that comes with puberty/dating/starting relationships, so imagine how hard it is to go through that TWICE! When these characters come out in their 30's, they're starting all over again, and luckily for us, it's twice as funny.

2015 has been an exciting year for the LGBT community, and we want to keep that going with Down & Out. In a recently published article from NPR entitled, “How Shows Like ‘Will & Grace’ and ‘Black-ish’ Can Change Your Brain,” psychologists presented research supporting the idea that “as we grow emotionally attached to characters who are part of a minority group, our prejudices tend to recede.” HOW COOL IS THAT? So, basically, diversity + comedy = world peace, right? By creating this comedy series, and making it available to everyone online, our hope is that the characters and their stories will resonate with a wide variety of audiences in a positive way. We’re trying to change the world over here, people!

Producers

Jeff Sun (Director) & Ray Wongchinda (Cinematographer) are an award winning duo who have worked together on numerous projects.
Jeff has had official selections at NewFilmmakers Los Angeles, Catalina Film Festival, Williamsburg Independent Film Festival, Los Angeles Comedy Shorts Film Festival, Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Palm Springs international ShortFest, DC Shorts Film Festival, Calgary International Film Festival, and Seattle International Film Festival...to name a few.
Ray's background in photography laid the foundation for his transition into cinematography; his work has appeared in several high circulation publications including Italian Vogue and Vanity Fair.

Annie C. Wright  (Writer/Creator) is a comedy writer from Rhode Island. She has been in L.A. for two years, and hasn't stopped sweating since.

Lead Actors

A.B. Farrelly (Wanda) - A.B. is a comedian from the Boston area (go Sawx!), and you can usually catch her performing her stand-up sets at different venues all over Southern California. As the daughter of director Bobby Farrelly of the Farrelly Brothers, A.B. caught the show-biz bug early on and has a pretty extensive on-screen resume ranging from cult comedies to independent films. You can follow her on Twitter and Instagram as @FunnyLezbo - we think the name suits her pretty well.

Theresa Do (Rae) - This is Theresa’s acting debut, but she was born to play this role! Theresa lives in San Francisco with her pit bull rescue, Sadie (we literally couldn’t make this stuff up). Last year, she was featured in “BUTCH,” a portraiture project by SF based photographer, Meg Allen. Theresa works as a software engineer by day, and is part of a pretty cool cycling gang by night (jk..kind of). Earlier this year, she completed the 545 miles from San Francisco to L.A. in the Aids Lifecycle Ride to End Aids.

Francesca De Luca (Margo) - As a former DJ and longtime actor, Francesca moved to LA in 2014 and hit the ground running. She already has over a dozen IMDB credits under her belt, and we're glad we found her when we did; Francesca’s English accent is the classiest thing we have going for us!

Michael "Corky" Loupe (Sam) - Corky is a California native who splits his time between city life and farm life. He is an accomplished equestrian and a former military man (though he still looks good in a uniform). Corky is making the transition from stage to screen in Down & Out, and we're thrilled to have him on board!

It's a wonderful feeling to have a group of people believe in a project enough to donate their time and energy to it - we were so very fortunate to have ALL of our cast (a whopping 22 people!) and almost all of our crew work for free while we shot our two-part pilot episode. By helping us fund this project, you'll be making at LEAST thirty dreams come true, and that's something you can tell the grandkids. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!

Making a production in L.A. is expensive, but we’re confident that we’ve chosen the right team who can work smarter, work harder, and make your dollars go farther. We’ve trimmed and tightened our budget and have set our goal at $15,000 and believe that with this amount, we can produce our vision for the entire first season of Down & Out.

Here’s a breakdown of how we’ll allocate the funds:

HUMBLE PIE
HUMBLE PIE

We know you're not in it for the rewards, but here's a pictograph of perks nonetheless. To get more details, refer to the descriptions in the reward section. Remember: once we hit the halfway mark ($7,500), we'll release episode 2!

Risks and challenges

We were able to make the first two episodes with an almost nonexistent budget by calling in favors, re-writing (and re-writing again) to work around location issues, having our production timeline take a backseat to everyone's paying gigs, and eating bologna sandwiches. Luckily, our team consists of creative, quick thinkers, and we're confident that we'll be able to work around the inevitable hurdles that arise. It takes a village, a crowdfunding village, and we hope you believe in us as much as we believe in Down & Out.
