A big thank you to the hundreds of people who helped us finding a new name for our game! We've read dozens of new titles and hundreds of opinions about all the submitted ideas.
We learned pretty quickly that "The Forbidden Palace" was not commonly accepted as a good new title, so we made up a list of the newly submitted titles and debated about them internally for the past few days.
With so many different opinions, we've also decided not to do a BGG poll about the new name. We've carefully wheighed all the pro's and cons of the titles on our shortlist.
Titles like "The Imperial Palace" sound well in English, but would be less succesful in non-English speaking countries. "Dragon Throne" would be a cool title, but doesn't match with the box illustrations. There were so many good ideas...
Only one title immediately caught our attention more than other names. It's powerful and short, sounds Chinese, but is yet rather easy to pronounce by western people. It has a relevant meaning and it can be used as a language independent title: Gùgōng
We know it will take some time for everyone, including ourselves, to get used to this new name. And we know that some people may even complain, because it's a rather recent term for the Forbidden City. In most dictionaries it's translated as "the Imperial Palace". We'll add an explanation of Gùgōng in the intro of our game rules.
Here are new images of the box covers in the same font type as before:
Thank you all so much for your continuous support and encouragements!
