It was a gloomy evening, it seems that the rain will soon be hitting the lands for the whole night. Not long after the tavern opened for business, it was already extremely hard to find an empty seat to enjoy a meal.
The Dragoneye tavern was as lively as usual, it is the place where adventurers of Askrias gather around boasting about what they encountered that day, what shards they have luckily stumbled on, and travelers, trying to find a safe place to stay for the night. Of course, the bar was in complete chaos of singing and dancing long before the sun even set. All of a sudden, the tavern door opened, and there stood a girl. everyone who noticed her stopped what they were doing. Even the bartender stopped despite how busy he was.
The girl had long dark hair, and was wearing something unusual, something that no one has ever seen before, something that one would assume to be worn by nobles yet too foreign even for them to wear. She held a long thin blade with her left hand, and from looking at the icy blue shard imbued into the hilt of her blade, they knew that she was not just a normal traveler...
She looked around slowly for a little while, then finally she took a small step into the tavern but still looked nervous and cautious with her surroundings. "Alright you brutes! Stop ya staring and just let the young girl rest her legs!" The bartender yelled and shortly everyone resumed what they were doing. He went to a dined but used table, cleared the dirty plates off and waved to the girl. The girl walked over, sat down and gave a somewhat relieving sigh.
"Would you like something to eat or mead to drink?" The bartender asked. She looked at him with a funny look. "Are you alright lass?" He asked again. She tilted her head one way as if she was still a bit confused, and then said something, a language so strange that he knew was not elven. "Hm... You seem to be from somewhere far... You must be hungry, even though I don't understand what you are saying, I'm sure that what you need is some nice food!" He said and walked off.
A few minutes later he walked back with a plate of roasted boar and a jug of fresh mead, "Only hunted this afternoon!" He placed the food in front of her and winked. "You can never find anything better than this from other taverns, only here in Dragoneye, the best Tavern in the whole of Askrias!" He laughed and left her to enjoy her meal.
A few hours has gone by, the bartender looked at the young girl. She sat there looking out the window into the raining darkness outside, her plate was still half filled with boar meat. He walked over to her "Didn't like our meat?" he asked. She was startled by his voice and quickly turned around to face him. She smiled and quickly grabbed her coin pouch. "No no, I didn't come asking you to pay for the food, was just wondering if you are ok that's all."
The girl grabbed a few coins from it and spoke in her language again, as if she was counting the coins and looking at what's on the table, to make sure if she had enough. After a while she slowly held out her hand. The bartender opened his hand to catch the falling coins, expecting to see what he was familiar with.
However when he looked, these coins were not from around, he looked at the girl, thinking it was a joke. Then he looked closely at the coins again, they were indeed made out of pure gold and silver, with a picture of dragons and phoenixes etched into the hard metals. These were coins from a foreign place. "Ah well, gold is still gold, so don't worry too much about it, one is enough for the meal." He smiled and handed the silver coins back to the girl, keeping only the gold one.
The girl smiled and placed the rest of the returned coins back into her pouch, and returned to her little world, gazing outside the window. The bartender thought that she must be exhausted, and left her alone and got back to his work.
When the time is close to midnight, is when the tavern is at it's most busiest time. Roasts served all around with cold mead, plates and plates with bones lay on every table. People dancing and singing, and it was just a great atmosphere to be in. The bartender was simply too busy to check back on the girl, and of course, he did not know that she has already left.
He looked at the empty table beside the window, he looked at the gold dragon coin he still kept in his pocket. He smiled and thought to himself, that he would like to know where this coin came from.

Coins from the Eastern Realm
I love board games ever since I was in school, especially fantasy dungeon crawl ones. However, I've always disliked the cardboard tokens that comes with it, they always felt... easily damaged.
I, myself love the artworks of the Eastern Culture, I'm born in Taiwan, and grew up in New Zealand, making myself both nationalities, and of course bought up with both Western and Eastern culture. I've always wanted to own fantasy coins with a taste of Chinese artwork...
But no one ever does it...
So I've decided to do it myself, I have done a complicated design, and looked for the right manufacturer to create it for me. Before wanting to put this project into full gear and kickstart it, I wanted to see if the manufacturer could complete the designs that I've visioned...
So for the first design, I've paid for the full tooling myself, and this was the result that I'm very happy with... You should've all seen how excited I was when the package came early in the morning before I went to work, and opening the box holding the coins, I giggled like a drunken dwarf... I'm dead serious.
The artwork here features a Dragon and Phoenix, 2 of the most powerful and well known mythical beasts in Asian Culture. I was totally impressed with the result of the coins.
The Coin itself
Here is a bit of information about the coins itself. The size of the coin is 2mm thick, and 30mm diameter. It is Aluminum Alloy Plated with a finish that will make all the details show. It weights just like, if not better than most of the other fantasy coins out in the market.
A small video of how everyone should be expecting the coin to feel, the sound of the coins hitting each other, the table, shows how solid the coins feel
So... why kickstart it?
As I mentioned before, the coins that you see in the photos, were made by me a month ago with the manufacturer, the toolings are expensive and I paid for it myself to make sure that they are up to standard. And of course you can see that all 3 colour coins are with the same design.
Each coin will have their own designs, and of course I have completed it as you are reading it right now, just waiting for the opportunity to have them created.
I have made one change to the art designs though, after holding the sample coin that I made in my hands, I realized that the lettering on the back side wasn't what I liked.
It's Ancient Traditional Chinese for the word "Gold" for those that do not understand it. I will not have any numbers showing in the backside, because I feel that it's up to the players to determine when and how to use these coins, I will leave the imagination to everyone.
So for the following artworks, you will see that instead I have gone with "Seal Script" format to give it even more flavour.
(Seal Script is an ancient style of Chinese calligraphy. It evolved organically out of the Zhou dynastyscript, arising in the Warring State of Qin. The Qin variant of seal script became the standard and was adopted as the formal script for all of China in the Qin dynasty, and was still widely used for decorative engraving and seals (name chops, or signets) in the Han dynasty)
So I would like everyone's help to bring these beautiful designs onto the gaming table!!
Of course, I will allow Add-on's for all backers. I know there aren't much option, but it is because as this is my first project, even though I am quite experienced with production and communication with the manufacturers, I would still like to keep it simple so I do not keep my backers waiting!
For more information on this add-on, please refer to Update 6 + 7.
Note: Please disregard the clause "1 finish per set" as said in Update 6. Tribal coins are $10NZD for a set of 8 coins, backers will be able to choose the finish + design for each coin in that set. (Example: you can choose to have 2 silver dragon, 2 gold phoenix, 2 copper turtle and 2 platinum tiger)
This is added only for the Tiger Tiers
Free shipping will be for all backers in the following countries: New Zealand, Australia and Taiwan
For everyone else around the world, the shipping rate will be fixed on the Tier that you backed, Additional add-ons will not add any additional shipping cost.
After making the first sample, I would be able to give a bit of timeline to everyone on how my schedule will be after getting the projects done.
The final designs of all 3 coins are completed, so there are no waiting time on that.
- The 3D drawing takes about 3 days to complete per design
- The Tooling takes about 10 working days to complete
- Depending on how much this project ends up, the actual production time will differ as well. From my understanding, it will take around 10 working days to create 3000 pieces of coins.
Because I'm currently working in Taiwan for now, the actual final products will be shipped to me here from China. Shipping to Taiwan should be quite fast, and will not take more than 1 week, then I will pack everything up personally (1 person team unfortunately)
I estimate that after this project is funded, I should be able to have everything ready and shipped out to all backers in 2 months. Hooooowever, I would like to give myself a bit of buffer... JUST IN CASE anything goes wrong, so I will say, 3 months.
So, what comes after Kickstarter?
Well, if the coins are well received, then I will create a website dedicated on selling these coins or retail. If I do have the chance to release these coins in retail, I will make a change to the designs, so in other words, my intention is that the coins that are obtained from this Project will be exclusively one of a kind.
Remember the word on the back side? The Kickstarter version of the coins will have Seal Script on the back. If one day the coins do go into retail, then I will create another tooling to have the original 'Ancient Chinese script' bought back onto the coins.
This is because, I view this first project, quite special for me, so I would like to keep the coins that are from this project, to continue being special to all backers.
Thank you again for looking at this Project.

Risks and challenges
I myself have been working with production manufacturers since I was 21, that's about a decade of experience.
I have made sure, that the people I'm working with are good enough to produce the detailed coins that I have asked them to do, as the pictures showed that their work is remarkable.
However, of course we all know that any production delays cannot be avoided if it happens, but I will do my best to make sure that we stay in the time frame, and will 100% deliver the coins to all my backers no matter what.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
