Warning: Yes, game is in conceptual stage, which is why the basic funding level is so minimal, so that we can take this from conceptual to a real product to show our backers and then run another campaign if necessary to meet the stretch goals. Any artwork depicted is not as of yet original and only displayed to show what our vision is once we meet funding and can get an artist on!

The game is broken down into two main aspects. The board game (coupled with CCG cards in play) and an online MMORPG version of the game, which anyone who has a boxed set of the game can gain access to for a lifetime membership with a code inside the box set. First we will outline the concept of the board game.

The game begins by opening a physical copy of the board game. The game is completely stand alone, and allows for play between 2 and 4 players. Players do not technically need the board game portion to actually play (although it does enhance the beauty and dimension of the game drastically!), but at least one copy of the board game is required to obtain all the game pieces required for play. The game contains a combination of board game, and collectible card game components.

Each boxed set will include: A gorgeous high resolution and detailed board of a space system map. 8 Beautifully crafted space station figurines. The game will also include two pre-built decks of random cards, however expansion packs will be available and players will each be able to customize their own deck. Cards will have a range of options from actions, resources, events, enhancements, and upgrades. Decks will consist of cards ranging from common to legendary, with the latter of course being found far and few between card packs. A 20 sided Die is also included in the box for determining who goes first. There is a stat card for each of the 8 space stations. The stat card details each space stations stats ranging from shields, defense, and offense power. Finally, there is a counter device that will allow you to keep track of your space stations shields.

Each players deck must contain 60 cards during game play unless players agree to use more or less cards.

About the cards

Resources are usually (but not always) ships or weapons that can be used to attack the enemy space station.

Upgrade cards are usually (but not always) used to upgrade your space station in some manner as directed on the card. Think increased shields, or offensive power, or defensive power, etc.  

Enhancement cards are usually (but not always) cards that can be used to enhance an existing resource card such as a ship or weapon. Examples include power upgrades for a ships offensive capability, cloaking devices, and other various abilities.  

The cards always dictate game play, and come first. In the event of a conflict of interest between two cards, the cards rarity always determines which card takes precedence. For example, A rare card would take precedence over an uncommon, and an uncommon would take precedence over a common. A card's rarity type can be indicated by the color of a card's border. Orange is Legendary, Purple is epic, Blue is rare, green is uncommon, and white is common. We have carefully designed the cards so as common cards should not contradict one another.

An event card may be played during anyones turn, at any time, regardless if it is that players turn or not. Think of event cards like an interrupting ability.

Each deck comes pre configured with 40 random commons, 15 uncommons, and the final 5 cards will either be rare or have a chance to have an epic or a legendary in the mix of 5 rares as well. There is never a guarantee on an epic or legendary card, however and each starter deck only guarantees 5 rare cards.

Booster packs will be available. Each will contain 5 commons, 3 uncommons, and the final two cards will either be rare, or also have a chance to contain an epic or legendary card as well.  

The game is built to be stand alone however. If you never want to purchase any further packs or expansions you don't have to!

OVERVIEW OF GAME PLAY - CONCEPTUAL STAGE - gameplay subject to change during development.

The game ends when all but one player's space stations are destroyed.

Once each player has their decks shuffled, game play may begin. Each player rolls the 20 sided die. The player with the highest roll goes first. In the event of a tie, the tied players will each roll again until one is the winner.

If less than 4 players are playing, some quadrants may be empty during play.  

Each players deck must contain 60 cards. If at any time any player runs out of cards, they may shuffle their discard pile and continue playing.  

All players, again beginning with the winning die roller and then clockwise, proceed to each take a turn. Each player draws 8 cards to start, and may never have anymore than 8 cards in their hand. If they do, they must discard a card at the end of the hand. At the beginning of each new turn after the first turn, each player draws 1 card.  

During each turn a player may take the following actions:  

Turn Begins

Player me unexhaust (turn upright) any cards exhausted from the previous round.

Play any one of the following: events, upgrades, resource, or enhancements from their hand.

Use any card currently in play in front of them, depending on the cards text. Once a card has been used it must be turned sideways (exhausted) and is no longer available until the players next turn.  

Make one announced attack on an opposing players space station. (opposing player may then decide how they would like to defend or respond to that attack)

Resolve combat Discard Turn Ends The only cards that may be placed into play permanently in front of the player are resource, upgrades, or enhancements. 

Event cards must be played then placed directly in the the players discard pile once the action is resolved.

ONLINE MMORPG CONCEPT:

Love playing Starfury but don't want to wait for your friends to come over for the next game? That's okay! We plan to create a browser based, fully interactive MMORPG immersive game. Think of it like an over view style though. Rather than first person, you'd be in control of a command center with lots of options and many aspects to control at once, as well as explore the rich lore of the dark universe Starfury will be set in!

Stretch Goals

10,000 - game fully designed including basic concept art and ready to show backers. If we do not reach 15,000 but we do reach 5,000 we will produce the game in full concept and then launch another Kickstarter campaign once we have a real product and product photography in place to show potential backers how awesome the game will be! But in the off chance people want to take a leap of faith and we gather more, here is what our further stretch goals are!
20,000 - game fully funded and rewards ready to ship.
25,000 - card stock significantly upgraded to thicker, premium material.
28,900 - Miniature sizes significantly increased and full color detail better seen!
35,600 - card sizes increased slightly for better handling and durability. Card stock increased to best material possible.

52,350 - Box material significantly improved to "collector" quality as well as Significantly better box artwork.

75,000 - Artwork will be significantly improved and more time able to spent per card.

125,000 - Online MMORPG Beta test funded and players who have purchased specific tiers of support will be eligible (per the rewards section) for BETA access once we launch our beta and be playable until official launch!

175,000 - Basic Gameplay should be launchable at this point and players able to play live with other players in a continuous online universe.

Anything above and beyond the 175K stretch goal would be used only to increase the awesomeness of the online MMORPG and also fund expansion possibilities (leading into another possible kickstarter campaign down the road :)

Risks and challenges

We have a very talented graphic artist on board that is ready to begin artwork as long as we receive successful funding. He will not charge the project but will instead take a small royalty of games sold.

I have had talks with two different (and large) stores that carry board games and both are very interested in the concept and have expressed interested in carrying it if we can bring it from the conceptual stage to product ready for viewing stage.
