Hello, my name is Laurent Lagrue, I'm a comics and games creator.
I offer you to sit in a quilted and vintage pilot seat, to take control of steel monsters and challenge your friends among the Manhattan skyscrapers.
This is an author's game, in the sense that I've almost completely done everything myself, from mechanism conception to art direction through the game's universe creation and now its promotion.
The illustrations and awesome robots' designs have been made by Erik Nilsson.
It's been almost 2 years that I've been working on this game and it has now reached maturity with dozens of games played, modifications and tweaks that allowed me to refine its mechanisms and content.
The next step is the game's marketing.
I chose to self-edit it, first to maintain control over the game but also to have the personal satisfaction to run the project from A to Z. "Do it yourself" is my motto.
Yet, the initial investment to produce 1000 copies is too much of a risk, and that's why I need you !
This Kickstarter launch will be a good way to see if Mecha 1945 appeals to players and if they're ready to buy it.
Other than the fact that you'll be getting the game by backing this project, you may be able to make the final design decisions with me. The 6 basic robots are still unnamed, and neither are some upgrades and equipment cards (votes will be organized on Mecha 1945 Facebook page). Likewise, some illustrations are still to be made and you'll be able to appear within them.
This is one of this project's guiding lines: collaboration and customisation.
Collaboration because you'll be able to bring the final artistic touch with me through your pledges, but also because this game is modular and allows you to create scenarios, variants or to modify robots' 3D models.
You'll be able to work on it and make this game yours!
The customisation is done by assembling game's cards and create your own robot (will it be fast ? technical ? or even saturated with weapons ?), and also through the use of the game's website which will allow you to assemble 3D pieces to create the model of your choice and print it (this website need to be funded by a stretch goal).
This is a tactical game for 2 to 6 players, ages 12 and above.
The goal is to destroy your opponents or to occupy certain places on the map to win the game.
It has many variants and game modes, and you can play alone or in teams (you can even shoot in your ally's back!).
This is a turn-based game, with programmation and simultaneous resolution. Don't run away! I'll explain.
This means that on every turn, you'll have to choose cards which represent orders given to your mecha.
Every player makes their choice secretly and then cards are revealed and their effects applied. You'll have to choose a movement order, a technical card and a combat card. It's up to you to predict your opponents choices and to shoot where they intend to go.
When you're hit, you lose cards which represents your abilities. This depict the damage done to your mecha. Manhattan's skyscrapers are destructible and made of 2 cubes that can be knocked over to create obstacles.
Some mechas can reach buildings rooftops and some have to bypass or destruct them. It's up to you to decide how you'll use the environment!
Gameplay video :
The game doesn't consist of plastic models. I've been turning over the problem, for a 1000 copies batch and with the already existing material, I'd have to sell the box for 80 to 90 Euros to fall on my feet. This would be too expensive for a lot of people.
So I took a different approach. In the box, you'll find attractive cardboard pawns on bases that perfectly fulfill their function (cut their opponents into thin strips).
I'll also provide a website (which need to be funded by a stretch goal) with a 3D conception module. This will allow you to assemble arms, legs and torsos to create the mecha that suits you the best. This way, you'll have a 3D model that you'll be able to create with a 3D printer.
If the stretch goal for the 3D website is reached, I'll provide ten arms, legs and torsos to assemble. These models will be under Creative Commons licensing so they can be modified freely.

Note: Some graphics are not final, as is the case of the illustration on the board, certain base maps, etc.
2nd Note: The game will be multilingual, English / French.

Risks and challenges
Production and delivery time.
When the project will be funded, there will be 2 months to produce the game considering your comments and pledges (graphic design, balancing, last playtest,...).
> November, december 2015
Then the manufacturing will be done in China with Whatzgame, sent to France and finally dispatched to USA and Europe. So I expect 6 months for this step.
> January to June 2016
For the 3D website, the production will start when the project will be funded. I need 10 mechas divided into 3 or 4 parts (legs, arms, torso, head). These 3D designs will be done by a professional graphic designer.
> 2 or 3 months will be required for this step (website + 3D models).
Why 19 000€ ?
I've worked during 2 years on this game.
After having designed the game, made illustrations, organized dozen of playtests and spent around 1 500€, I need you to cover the cost for the production of 1000 copies.
Repartition of 19 000 € :

7 500 € for shipping. (France > Backers).
1 900 € for Kickstarter fee.
600 € for miscellaneous costs : insurance, tax, storage,...
Shipping, France to backers :
For this step, shipping will be done by a professional dispatcher.
