About this project
Yukigassen (Japanese for snowbattle) is a professional snowball fighting sport that originated in Japan in 1989. This February, our team has the opportunity to represent Canada at the 28th annual Showa Shinzan International Yukigassen World Championships in Northern Japan.
We will be filming our journey in a web series entitled "Yukigassen: Road to Glory,” chronicling Team Canada’s quest to the World Championships. By immersing ourselves in authentic Japanese culture we hope to learn the secret art of snowball fighting that has allowed Japan to dominate the sport of Yukigassen for nearly 30 years, and bring home the trophy to the Great White North.
We have booked the flights, but there are many costs that come along with competing in a professional sport and producing a documentary on the other side of the world. ie. equipment, facilities, training, and a production crew, as well as accommodating the team, with food & bus rental in Japan.
We're honoured to represent our country and want to bring everyone along for the wild ride with a documentary, but we need your help. Thank you for any donation made, big or small. If we reach our trip goal of 30,000 for the team, we may see the beginning of a long Yukigassen legacy in Canada.
Sincerely, Team Canada Yukigassen
Risks and challenges
We've assembled the team, we've trained, and we've booked our flights. Who knows how strong the Japanese teams will be at the sport, but we will bring our best Canadian snowball throwing skills to the tournament.
Our video team will be compiling footage throughout the trip, and an 8 part video series will begin being assembled upon our return home. We have plotted out stops and interesting material for the documentary while in Japan, but there is always the possibility that something goes wrong and the trip does not go as planned.
We intend to create video content no matter the outcome or if the trip for some unfortunate reason must be cut short. The video is priority and we have confidence that, thank you to the strong characters on the team, interesting and entertaining content will be produced regardless.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
