Dreaming in pictures.
Somewhere is a photography book that takes us on a journey in the most concrete and abstract sense of the word. The photographs were taken in different locations around the world as varied as Norway, Ukraine, Namibia, and Mexico. The book is both a mediation on the magical qualities of each place, and an experiment in visual narrative.
Somewhere will be a quiet and contemplative book, but without losing a strong grounding in the real world. It's been designed as a gentle, yet outspoken object, by award winning Dutch designer Sybren Kuiper (-SYB-).
Your pledge will help fund final scans and proofs for the book, travel expenses to oversee the production, and the printing and binding costs for a small edition of 700 copies.
Thank you for your support.
Praise for Somewhere
"Andres Gonzalez has been able to create, in a series of photographs, a world we only know from our dreams. Impressions, memories, images from the back of our head, once seen out of the corner of an eye, are captured by the photographer in a surprising and moving way. In the clever design of Sybren Kuiper, one picture following the other, together, in a subtle flow, the images form a booklet of visual poetry." - Bertien van Manen / photographer
"Andres Gonzalez has crafted a dreamy little book of his travels to places unknown. Working with designer Sybrien Kuiper, they have utilized materials and sequencing to create passages that gently pull the viewer in and out of a semi-conscious other-place, other-where." - Christian Patterson / photographer
"This is a book about place - but how do you define place when there are no specific boundaries? The book becomes the place - Somewhere / Here... This journey follows a disembodied path, but arrives in fullness." - George Slade / writer/curator
