A deck of playing cards to help storytellers of all types: Gamers, Role Players, Writers, Artists, Children, Parents, Teachers & You!
Visit us at http://www.storytellercards.com
Storyteller Cards is a deck of 54 playing cards that each feature 4 unique elements. There is a CHARACTER, holding an ITEM, completing an ACTION, in a LOCATION. Each of these elements can be used to create something new, get you out of a mid-project slump, or just to have some creative fun with family and friends.
The cards also feature additional icons in the corners to help you dig a little deeper into storytelling, creating, and gaming. The icons represent a RANK, SUIT, MOOD, SEASON, LETTER, and COLOR. There are a few more surprises within those icons, but we'll get into all of that later.
Now, how can I use these cards? There are so many ways. It just depends on what you are doing.
- ARE YOU A WRITER who needs a location for a scene or just a character to spark a new adventure? Flip a card and you've got one!
- ARE YOU A DUNGEON MASTER running a modern day RPG and you need a special item for your party? Flip a card and you've got one!
- ARE YOU A TEACHER trying to encourage your students' writing skills? Pass out a card to each student and let their imagination finish the story.
- ARE YOU JUST LOOKING FOR SOME CREATIVE FUN? Flip 5 cards and craft a scenario using an element from each card. Pass the cards to the next player to continue the story. Keep passing, it's a blast!
There are so many more uses for Storyteller Cards, many of which you will come up with on your own. We also have a whole bunch for you in our Storyteller Pads and Storyteller Manual.
STORYTELLER KITS: Starting at the $25 pledge level, you can get a kit that contains a full color printed 50-100 page pad, 2 interactive pencils, and two decks of cards. The pad features a game or activity that you can play over and over alone or with friends. The pencils are interactive in that when you sharpen them, the small challenges on the sides will start to change (example: the Artist pencils feature moods to set the tone of your story, and the Director pencils feature the three-act story structure to encourage additional writing and sharpening!).
Artist Kit: Comic Challenge. Create a comic alone or with friends!
Director's Kit - Director's Cut. Players create their own film using just 8 cards!
Children's Kit - Once Upon A Time. An activity where the children get to tell the story! (Ages 3+)
ORIGINAL ARWORK: Starting at the $100 pledge level you will receive one of The original illustration for one of the cards, signed by artist Campbell Whyte. These are 1/2 A4 sized (around 5.25" x 8") and are each one of a kind.
YOU CAN BE A STORYTELLER CARD: We have an opportunity to make 6 backers into Storyteller characters. We already have the character types, items, actions and locations chosen, but Campbell Whyte will illustrate you as the character! This will require some coordination, so if you have any questions about the character types available, contact us beforehand. Note: All but one are based off of adult characters.
You can add any of the items below to your pledge by adjusting your pledge amount. After the campaign ends, we will send you a survey to determine what you pledged for. Please message me with any questions.
NOTE: International shipping is $7 for one deck and $10 for everything else. If you add-on any items (except stickers), please make sure you adjust your standard international shipping to $10.
We've had some ideas for Stretch Goals and we'll post more on those here as the campaign continues. For now, here's:
The Storyteller Manual is a book of games, activities, and examples of uses for the Storyteller Cards created by very talented game designers, writers and artists from throughout the world (Scott King, Carey Pietsch, Tim Rodriguez, Kevin Kulp, Daniel Solis, Scott Almes, John du Bois, Jay Treat, Kevin Spak, Sam Liberty, Charles Beauvais, Gaetan Pappalardo and many more). The Storyteller Manual will be a free PDF for all backers, as wells a $11 US / $13 International Add-On purchase.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER: Jason Tagmire is a game designer from South Jersey. He is best known for reducing our 16th president to 16-bits in his card game / video game, Pixel Lincoln. He's the designer of the upcoming AEG card-throwing game, Maximum Throwdown. He was also co-set designer on Quarriors: Quest of the Qladiator, co-creator of the pop-culture site Fruitless Pursuits, and the Kickstarter curator for the Philadelphia chapter of the International Game Design Association.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: You may know Campbell Whyte from his amazing illustration series 8-Bit Dreams, where he illustrated a whole bunch of classic Nintendo Games. I have quite a collection of the originals, snagging up Megaman 2, Blades of Steel and many others as soon as they went on sale. Campbell is a great friend and an amazing artist, so I'm thrilled to be able to work together on this project.
ABOUT THE PUBLISHER: Button Shy is "The Cardboard World of Designer Jason Tagmire and Friends". Jason has been involved in the game industry for 5 years now, starting out with self-publishing and print-on-demand and then working on projects with companies such as Wizkids, Game Salute, Island Officials, AEG and more. This will technically be the first Button Shy release, but with the history of self-publishing and the experience on the design side has led to an opportunity to branch out on our own with a relatively small and confined project.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Any creative production has risks and ours are just like everyone else's. We need to first reach funding, then complete all of the final art and graphic design, have the cards printed and delivered to you. Within each of these areas there can be snags and hiccups and thankfully we have many professional and seasoned friends and family members that have offered to lend their hand and expertise in getting us off of the ground and getting us through any hurdles.
My personal experience in working on games like Pixel Lincoln has given me a front row seat (and often drivers seat too) in the manufacturing and post-production of a board/card game, and I'll be putting everything I learned to use once again.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
