What is a "Game Night Social Metagame"?
It's a game that you play throughout the course of the ENTIRE game night. You pass out role cards when everyone arrives, and then you tally the score when everyone leaves. As a player you have one job, fulfill your duty as stated on your card. Maybe you are the Glutton. All you need to do is make sure someone hands you food or drink. It's easy enough to say "can you pass me those chips?", but at the same time is it too obvious to say that? Other players can call you out, which will eliminate you from the game, so you better be slick about it. It's all about setting up your agenda in an unsuspicious way. That's Pretense for you.
Pretense comes packaged in a wallet?
OH YES. The game consists of 12 role cards, a reference card and rules, so it's technically a "micro game". The $9 Wallet Version will be packaged in a small vinyl wallet, perfect for taking it on the go. It's pocket-sized, portable and protective... and has proven itself so far with Movie Plotz, our first Wallet Game. The Movie Plotz Kickstarter overfunded at almost 220%, and shipped out ON TIME within 2 months of the close of the campaign. This one will be exactly the same. Art is complete. Layout is complete. Rules are complete. We've paid for the art out of our already empty pockets, so we need your help kicking off the rules, wallets and card production.
But I want to play right now!
You can do that. We're delivering within a month of the close of the campaign, but if you want to play it now we will make sure that can happen too. The two page print and play is here. The rules are here. Print it and play it.

We've been taking pictures of Pretense during other games. Here are a few to start with.
At Button Shy Games, we've released a few products so far. Each has its own quirky thing going on. Storyteller Cards has no rules and puts the creativity into the hands of the users. Movie Plotz uses just 12 cards to turn a party into a Hollywood writer’s room. You can purchase these today at our website http://www.buttonshygames.com or you can pledge for a package deal here and save money.

Can my game group be IN the game?
Yes they can! We're offering a custom version of the game with photos of up to 13 of your friends faces as the roles. Here's me and my good friend Flip Florey from the brilliant Flip The Table podcast. He's really a clown and I'm really a glutton. This custom version makes for a solid and personal gift for anyone in your game group.
Finally... why pledge and not buy later?
Button Shy a small company (REALLY SMALL) trying to big and different things. Our first release, Storyteller Cards was an open world of creativity. Movie Plotz is about limitations and restrictions. And now Pretense is taking your game night to another level. Our games are priced as low as possible without breaking the nonexistent bank. So without Kickstarter, you may not see these games. Art is expensive and we believe in high quality art. Short run games are ridiculously expensive, but for us it's short run or no run. We're doing this in a way that is highly unprofitable, but we do it because we love it. So thank you for your pledge as it makes every bit of this possible.
Risks and challenges
We've done our homework and have as much ready as possible before even launching the Kickstarter, but there are always challenges once it's completed. There may be factory delays or errors, which can cause delays for fulfillment. We've had this issue previously and managed to turn it into a positive thing by providing extra content in the final version of the product.
All of our previous projects have been fulfilled on time, except the one that was delayed by a month due to a printing error.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
