About this project
Do you remember when Gene Simmons, Mr. T, and Albert Einstein banded together to disarm that bomb?
That would have been awesome if it really happened.
In FAMOUS MISSIONS you can make it happen! Instead you might choose Mother Teresa, Hulk Hogan and Steve Irwin. Or Donald Trump, Joan of Arc and Danny DeVito. Choose whoever you want, and defend your choice.
The best part of this game come out of defending your choice. You can come up with a story about how or why your team is the best team for the job. You can cite actual events in history to back it up, or you can simply explain why the other team is the worst team for the job. You will plead your case with everything you've got!
FAMOUS MISSIONS is a multiplayer card game for 2-6 players. Suggested for ages 13 and up. Gameplay lasts 15-30 minutes. The game consists of 108 cards.
Primarily, I want to make games. I received a ton of support on my previous Kickstarter project Lines of Fire, and I've thought long and hard about what I wanted to do next.
I want to get Famous Missions out there to a larger audience. I self published a few dozen copies of the game a few years ago, but self-publishing in a large scale is very expensive and very hard for a small game designer like myself. I chose Famous Missions because everyone who plays REALLY enjoys themselves. I've experienced it myself, watched from the sidelines, and received emails from strangers who have played the game saying that they've had a blast.
It's also a game that's very dear to me for two reasons:
1. I created all of the artwork. One of my biggest dilemmas when creating games is obtaining art. I want to be an artist so bad, but it just doesn't work for me. I thought I'd try it myself on this game, and I think it actually worked.
2. The game encourages creativity. Players need to come up with scenarios and defend themselves. It's a different game every time, depending on the cards that are drawn and the people playing the game. Usually even the shyest players will start to come out of their shell after a few rounds.
So I would like to make a retail quality, full deluxe release of Famous Missions. With each game project, I've inched closer and closer to retail quality, so I'd love to finally hit that mark. It's expensive though!
Almost all of the work is already done. The original set was 63 cards, but I'm adding another 45 to this version to make it bigger than ever. It will extend the gameplay, and give everyone more for their money.
During the course of this Kickstarter campaign, I will be revealing all of the cards through updates.
We're going to offer some fun rewards too. The face masks will be awesome. Postcards too. More to come as we go on. If we can pass our goal amount we can pack even more into the game. As you may or may not know, the more you order, the cheaper it is per unit. So that allows us to spend a little more on more components and cards.
The money is 100% being used for the production of this game. I'm going to order a run of the games in high quality printed two-piece boxes. As you know, it's extremely expensive and basically impossible for one person to cover. At least it is for me... someone with a normal job, normal bills, a not so normal 3 year old daughter :) and 1 year old twins. If I were to try this on my own, I'd have to take out a loan or put it on credit cards and pay for it for the rest of my life. I can't afford do that.
With the help of everyone on Kickstarter, we can release this game!! And afterwards, we can work on more games! Famous Missions is also very easily expandable, so I can continue making additional cards and we can be friends forever!
Thanks again everyone! Please spread the word about my little celebrity game. Every little bit helps!!
HOW TO PLAY FAMOUS MISSIONS
MAIN GAME - 3 PLAYER MODE
To assemble the best 3 person team for the mission.
How to play:
One player is the judge. The judge will shuffle the decks, deal out 7 “Person” cards to each of the players, and place the decks in the center of the table, face down. The judge will then flip over the top card on the “Mission Objective” deck and read it out loud.
The players will both choose the best 3 famous people from their hands, and play them face-down on the table. The player to the left will read his team out loud (without saying anything other than their names), and the player to the right will follow. The judge then declares a winning team who he/she thinks is best for the job.
If the losing player thinks that his/her team is better, now is their chance to argue for their team (or against their opponents. The opponent must be silent during the argument. If the judge decides to stick with his original vote, the round is over.
If the judge is swayed by the losing team, the judge can change his vote. Now the other player (the player who originally was chosen by the judge) gets a chance to argue. The opponent must be silent during his argument. The judge gets a final chance to decide who wins the round.
The winner of the round gets the mission card as a trophy for their successful mission.
The Person cards that have been played are discarded and each player is dealt 3 cards. The next round starts and player order is reversed.
Winning the game:
The game ends when a player reaches 4 mission card trophies. We suggest switching judges/players in-between matches.
2-Player “Can I Beat A Non-Opponent” Variation
To assemble the best 3 person team for the current mission… and to beat a non-existing opponent.
How to play:
See above rules for 3-Players, but instead of playing against an opponent, the judge will draw the top three
cards of the deck and read them aloud. The player will have to argue why his/her assembled team is better than the random team drawn by the Judge. The Judge votes, and either the real player or the non-player will get the mission card as a trophy.
Winning the game:
The game ends when a player (or non-player) reaches 4 mission card trophies.
Group Play (4-6 Players)
To collectively assemble the best 3 person team for the current mission, but also to get the most “players on the team”.
How to play:
One player starts out as judge. The judge will shuffle the decks, deal out 3 “Person” cards to each of the players (including himself/herself), and place the decks in the center of the table, face down. The judge will then flip over the top card on the “Mission Objective” deck and read it out loud.
The players (but not the judge) will all choose the best
famous person from their hands, and play it face-down on the table. (NOTE: With 4 players, a dummy card from the top of the deck must be played each turn) The Judge will read all of the cards out loud (without saying anything other than their names. The judge then declares a winning team who he/she thinks is best for the job.
Players now declare which card was theirs, and the losing player gets a chance to argue for their teammate. If the judge is swayed by the losing player, the judge can change his vote and vote out a different person. Now the other player (the player whose person was just eliminated by the judge) gets a chance to argue. The opponent must be silent during his argument. This can go on until all players had a chance to argue. Once they’ve all made their arguments, the judge gets a final chance to decide the three person team that wins the round.
Players hold onto the winning people cards as trophies.
Each player is dealt a new card by the Judge. The Judge then passes the gavel to the player to the left. And a new round begins.
Winning the game:
The game ends when a player (or non-player) reaches
10 mission card trophies.
Teams: Play with 7 players. One is a judge for the entire
game, and the 6 players are split into two 3-player teams.
Each player is dealt two cards per turn and must play one of their two cards as part of their group’s mission team.
Blind Teams: Same as above but team communication is not allowed until all cards are played.
Solo: Shuffle and draw a mission card and three people. It’s always going to make you laugh.
