Each player in Circle the Wagons is fixin' to build up their own boomtown, but only one'll build the best in the West!
Blaze a trail by draftin' cards 'round the circle and placin' 'em in yer town, tryin' to connect matchin' territories to score prosperity points! But don't forget about them three bonus cards in the center of the circle that can score ya even more points — that is, if ya play yer cards right. With darn near five thousand unique ways to score and millions of draftin' and placin' combos, you'll never build the same town twice!
Circle the Wagons is a two player game designed by Steven Aramini (Yardmaster), Danny Devine (Mob Town) and Paul Kluka with art by Beth Sobel (Viticulture, Lanterns: The Harvest Festival). Gameplay lasts about 20 minutes and is recommended for ages 10 and up.
The game consists of:
-Fold Out Full Color Rules
This is part of our Wallet Line and will be packaged in a small vinyl wallet, perfect for taking it on the go. It's pocket-sized, portable and protective... and has proven itself with our growing line of wallet games.
Circle the Wagons was originally entered into the 2016 Button Shy Wallet Game Design Contest and took the top spot over 72 other games including Mint Julep and That Snow Moon from this campaign, Turbo Drift and Find Your Seats from our last campaign, and many many other great games.
You can print the full game right here. It's only 4 pages long with front and back sides of the cards. The rules are just another few pages, and you can even make it work by just viewing them online.
Please note: The rules on all of the games are NOT final. They still need to go through editing and graphic design, but any notes that you have at this point are incredibly appreciated.
So we're going to start this off with my review. Yes I'm the publisher and there's an assumed bias there, but as someone who has released 24 of these wallet card games in the past, and has received dozens and dozens of submissions, I have to say that Circle The Wagons is the best microgame I have ever played. The designers used the small size in a way that no other game has done. But size aside, it's one of my favorite games. Why? It's the simple elegance of how the items, the background locations and scoring conditions interact. Each game only uses 3 out of 18 scoring conditions, so every single game is very different from the last. It hits all the right spots.
Now onto the real reviewers. :)
Eric Buscemi, The Cardboard Hoard - "It is the best game I have played in Button Shy's line, and this line features other games I think very highly of, such as Ahead in the Clouds and Pentaquark. Highest possible recommendation."
Andrew Fisher, Gamosity - "Simply put, Circle The Wagons belongs in your collection…If you’ve got someone to play with, a table to use, and 15 minutes to kill, Circle The Wagons is going to be a perfect fit." (LINK)
Eric Booth, What Did You Play This Week - "Final verdict? I give this two rootin' tootin', beer bottle shootin', hollerin' and a hootin', thumbs up." (LINK)
Andy Matthews, Meeple Mountain - "Equal parts Patchwork, Isle of Skye, and Kingdom Builder, Circle the Wagons is the quintessential big game in a small package. Meaty, beautiful, streamlined, and pure fun to play." (LINK)
Samantha Fisher, GeekDad/GeekMom - "Circle the Wagons was a rip roarin' success with cowpokes long and short at my house. With rules simple enough to only take one walk through but strategy just complex enough to hold up through multiple playthroughs I definitely see a place for this in my Short but Sweet games list. It is perfect for getting warmed up for a game night, sneaking in a quick game while waiting for your food in a restaurant, or anytime you have 15 minutes to spare."
Also included in this campaign are TWO MORE BRAND NEW GAMES! Mint Julep by Dan Letzring (Dino Dude Ranch, Gadgeteers) and That Snow Moon by Dave Chalker (Get Bit!, Thief's Market). Both are available here for the first time (and at reduced prices too!)
In Mint Julep, players draft cards, place bets and then manipulate the race in order to ensure the horse that they want to win ends up finishing the race in a top spot. Be careful where you place your bet because the odds might be against you!
Each game is played in 3 Rounds that each consist of three phases: 1.) drafting cards for your hand 2.) betting on which horse you think will win 3.) playing movement cards to adjust the order of the horses in the race.
Final scoring is based on where horses start in the race (horses starting in lower positions are worth more points), where horses end in the race (more points earned for higher place finishers), and when a bet was played (with later bets being worth less than earlier bets).
Score the highest points with your bet and you win!
That Snow Moon - A 2-4 player asymmetrical card throwing game.
That Snow Moon is a space opera inspired by a popular movie involving space and battles, while not actually infringing upon intellectual property.
In the game, players divide into two teams: Liberation and Dynasty. Liberation throws their cards facedown onto the field, trying to assemble a particular set of cards. The Dynasty drops their cards onto the table, trying to land on the Liberation cards to reveal them and take out important cards from the Liberation.
The Liberation tries to bluff and disguise what they're doing, while the Dynasty tries to outguess and crush them, which each side uses its unique special abilities as best it can.
Never forget that snow moon: it's a space station.
Wagon Wheels - A 2 player game about building an EVEN SMALLER boomtown.
Wagon Wheels is a nano-sized game by Nat Levan, based on Circle The Wagons. Nat has been making these Nanodaptions (trademark!) of our already small wallet games, where he will distill the essence of the gameplay down to just a few cards and tokens. Wagon Wheels is just 3 cards, which includes 4 different maps and one rules card.
In the game, two players will place and move their tokens around the map, trying to get the majority of their tokens in a quadrant to score that quadrant's special bonus as well as trying to get the east and west spaces on the map for additional points.
See below for each of the reward levels. Note: These prices are discounted for the campaign.
And we have a few ADD-ONS this time, including the brand new games from our January campaign that are shipping now. These prices include US and CANADA shipping. International backers, please contact us to determine your shipping cost for add-ons.

Risks and challenges
Releasing games each month has established a groove with the manufacturer. We rarely see delays on their end, but we can see delays before it goes to the manufacturer. We are spending time making sure the rules are 100% right and you will be invited to join in on that process.
With a lot to juggle and it being mostly one person, we will occasionally see delays. A few previous projects were a little behind schedule so we've adjusted our schedule accordingly. Our January project arrives April 5th and will ship on time throughout April leaving no unfulfilled projects.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
