For the past five years, we've had the privilege of chronicling the restoration of one of the most amazing, and important, aircraft ever made: an original de Havilland Mosquito.
It achieved legendary status early; in 1940, when it first took flight, the Mosquito — like its namesake, a manoeuvrable, light and, ultimately, a thorough nuisance to the enemy with its ability to handle a wide variety of aerial missions at all altitudes — was the fastest aircraft on the planet. History tells us that the Mosquito was a crucial element in the eventual victory of the Allied Forces over Hitler’s Luftwaffe in World War II.
But very few examples of the Mosquito, known widely as the “Mossie”, remain today as they were made almost entirely of wood, and the majority of the wooden frames haven’t stood the test of time.
In 2009, an amazing and dedicated team at Victoria Air Maintenance (Victoria, Canada) was assembled and charged with the monumental task of fully restoring an original Mosquito to flying condition. And that’s where our story begins.
Our documentary tells the story of this Mossie through archival footage and interviews with veteran pilots. We follow the incredible process of restoring a plane that hasn't flown in more than 40 years. And, we’ll take to the skies with the world’s only known flying original Mosquito.
All of the footage has been filmed — the roller-coaster restoration process (good luck finding spare parts for a 1940s wooden airplane!), the first flights, and interviews with pilots and enthusiasts whose lives have been touched by this wooden wonder.
Now, we are asking for your support to complete the film as we raise funds to post and distribute the documentary. We've been volunteering our time and skills because of our passion for this project, but in order to get this amazing story out to the public, we have some editing and production costs that need to be covered.
The team at Pan Productions has worked on dozens of award-winning television projects over the past three decades. We’ve chosen to launch this documentary through DVD sales, as this history documentary isn’t a good fit for traditional broadcasters.
You can play a role in helping people learn more about this amazing airplane, and see your name in the credits in acknowledgement of your support.
If you have any troubles or questions about how to contribute please don’t hesitate to email or call us.
