Synopsis: “9/11 Dust: A Healing Journey”
This is a short documentary followup to Penny Little’s 2006 film “9/11 Dust and Deceit” about people who have suffered from the health effects of the toxic dust of September 11, 2001, many of whom are still not getting the health care they need. The film seeks to show solutions, and asks how those directly affected by illness, and all of us still grieving, can heal from 9/11?
9/11 was a defining moment of my lifetime, as it was for many others. Even though the passing of 11 years has dulled the edge of the horror we all felt that morning, the wound has not healed. Those who were sickened by the environmental disaster of 9/11 live with it every day of their lives. 9/11 was a trigger point, from which fear has ruled government policy, wars have been waged, civil liberties have been taken away.
Now, even though the 9/11 Zadroga Health Bill has passed, the question remains: are those suffering from health effects of 9/11 getting the help they need? I wanted to know. And how were those victims of the dust I interviewed in 2004 and 2005 doing now, and how had the political landscape changed? Can we heal from 9/11 without examining it closely?
This documentary includes new interviews with health survivors, researchers, doctors, psychologists, alternative practitioners, and US Congressman Jerrold Nadler.
Just as the film was nearing completion, at the beginning of August, with 42 hours of interviews on tape, two trips to New York, and hundreds of hours spent in editing, and a date for the premier set, the primary funder pulled out due to philosophical differences and the direction of the film.
Despite this setback, I have put everything else on hold and continued with the production in order to complete the film for a September 8, 2012 premier in NYC.
I wear many hats: filming interviews, editing, graphics, authoring. My production “team” is me, myself and I plus Nik Green (composer) and Rachel Hughes (project inspirer, project “manager” and a health survivor of 9/11)
Fine cut given to composer: August 19; Final touches: August 25-26 Send to Duplicator: August 27; Preview Premier September, 2012 place and time September 9-12
What Funding Will Cover
I am looking for the support needed to finish this work, finalizing "9/11 Dust: A Healing Journey", plus the extras and the updated version of the original film “9/11 Dust and Deceit”. Funding will help pay for fine tune, color correct, music, titling, mastering the DVD, duplicating copies of the film for the preview premier and for Kickstarter "rewards", and my airfare to attend and speak at the premier September 8.
