T-shirts, hand-printed in Chicago, featuring original designs for classic gaming fans and pop-culture enthusiasts.
One Man Surf Party is a collection of T-shirts, screen-printed by hand in Chicago, featuring designs created by myself.
I designed these shirts to fill a gap in my own T-Shirt collection. Within the stacks of boldly-printed black shirts in my closet are designs for punk rock bands, horror movies, and not much else. I love video games every bit as much as I love these bozos, but where's the rockin' shirt?
So, I dug deep into my satchel of illustration and design skills to put together some slick shirts for the many things I'm passionate about. My main goal was to make them attention-grabbing and fun.
A small trial-batch of shirts were already printed to ensure the pipeline was in place and that the finished product was up to my standards. I can most assuredly say that these shirts look dynomite, and are ready for full production. To make this happen, though, I will need your help.
Traditional screen-printing for a small quantity of shirts is a timely, thus costly, process which requires a minimum amount of shirts be printed to keep prices reasonable. What you are funding is this minimum print order to bring each shirt into the world. Not only will you get the satisfaction of knowing you brought something completely new to life, you will also receive the very shirts you helped to make!!! Wear these shirts and tell all your friends "I made this!" Go ahead! You earned it, buddy!
So take a look at the initial collection of One Man Surf Party rewards, then donate generously through the options on the right.
I love to make T-Shirts, which is what this is all about, so all funds remaining after processing the rewards will go toward extra stock and making future One Man Surf Party shirts easily available for purchase.
My name is Aaron and I've worked the past few years designing and producing games for iOS and Windows (Zombies!!!, Shuffle Party, Rogue Racing, Fairway Solitaire) and even old flippy-type phones and Blackberries (Tetris 2012). I got into game development simply because of my love for making fun things.
The very data-driven mobile industry doesn't always allow much room for creativity, so I began tapping off the creative steam through some fun illustrations each night. It is something I've always enjoyed doing, and it is a refreshing way to escape from computer screens and smartphones for a while. These nights of staying up late with pens and prismacolors while listening to Dick Dale and Link Wray became my One Man Surf Parties. A simple celebration of creativity for no-one's satisfaction but my own.
Drawing little pictures was a blast and all, but I still hadn't satisfied that familiar hunger to make something all my own. Something fun that can be held in your hands but still enjoyed by many. Something that can make people smile and shout "Hey! Nice Shirt!" So I danced my One Man Surf Party on into some T-Shirt designs I always wanted to own.
It may be a One Man Surf Party, but these shirts can't exist without the help of a highly skilled screen-printer. My friends over at Replica Chicago have been enlisted to bring these designs to life, and they are simply the best! They have already printed a small batch of the most complicated shirt, and it looks stellar!
Replica Chicago is an independently owned husband-and-wife print studio located in Chicago. They have a beautiful storefront full of nerdy swag, and they are dedicated to making the highest quality prints possible. They only use environmentally-friendly inks and screen solutions, and they pride themselves greatly on being an entirely eco-friendly business.
Each design will be printed on Gildan 5000 T-Shirts. These shirts are very soft and comfortable, but durable enough to withstand many washes and the bold inks of each design.

Shirts will shrink after the first wash! I wear an XL, which is too loose when new, but fits perfectly once washed (I'm 5'10" and 215 lbs).
Once the campaign has ended, it will take around 2 weeks to get the shirts printed. I'm budgeting an additional 2 weeks to get all orders packaged and shipped. Throw in a little extra time for any complications, and I can safely say that your rewards will arrive during the first two weeks of November. Plenty of time to get them wrapped for the holidays!!!
What, exactly, is the money going towards?
- Screen setup, ink, and printing costs
- Various sizes of cotton shirts
- Button printing
- Packaging materials
- Shipping fees
- Kickstarter and credit card fees
Any remaining funds will go toward printing additional stock and making future One Man Surf Party shirts available for purchase.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The only challenge to this project is that I really am just one man doing this all from home, so the more rewards there are to fill the longer it could take on packaging and shipping. However, this is a challenge that I will GLADLY charge through with the aide of my wonderful girlfriend, Dana, and those good friends who are always willing to work if beer and pizza are provided.
