10 new songs. Recorded by Mike Coykendall. Featuring the amazing talents of Mike (drums, bass), Jenny Conlee-Drizos (piano, accordion), Jill Coykendall (clarinet), Annalisa Tornfelt (vocals, violin), Miss Michael Jodell (vocals), and Wendy Pate (vocals). And the meager talents of me (vocals, ukulele, guitar).
We started recording in November and are mixing it now. The money raised here will pay for mastering and production costs. If all goes well it will be pressed in February, 2013. If not, then March.
I had no idea if I would ever write songs again. These songs showed up this summer like people with personalities all their own. I just tied their shoes, straightened hair and ties, changed a shirt or two. There was even a show-tune that arrived at 5am; my sister was staying with me and laughed when at dawn I went grumbling outside with a can of Pabst saying, "The song is here. It wants a beer and a cigarette. And maybe a little pot." A dear friend of mine has said about these songs, "If your soul had a voice, it would sound like this." Well, my soul does have a voice, and indeed, it sounds like this.
I may call the collection Courage instead of New Light. In any case it will be dedicated to Teisha Helgerson and her loving mom, Deb.
History Mystery, Find Yourself, Energy: A Love Song For West Virginia, Elephant in the Room, Song No Words, Always Be Mine, Today, Head Banger, The Back Forty, New Light
Thank you! And Thank You again.
Much love, Sue
