The project is an illustrated book of short biographical portraits of the "Saints" who, as a gay, pop cultured obsessed American man, inspire me and help guide me as I make my way through life. The book is nearing completion and I hope to send it to the printers in June of 2017. With the funds raised through Kickstarter I'll be able to print in full color, as the illustrations are very bright and fun, most with a whimsical nod toward more traditional religious art.
The book is fun, informative, and slightly autobiographical as I include stories about actual encounters with some of the people featured in the book, such as Gloria Steinem, Jennifer Holliday, and Stockard Channing.
It will feature over 70 of my full color illustrations like the ones below.
Where Will The Money Go?
The budget for the project includes approximately $2,500 for printing and shipping from the printers, including tax. Another $1,500 is slated to pay to create the rewards, though this amount could be lower depending on the exact combination of rewards selected. And I would like to use approximately $1,500 for internet advertising targeting the LGBQT community. This leave a cushion of $500 for shipping books out, though I expect many of them to be purchased in person. It's a modest budget for a modest project. Help me make it a reality!
Risks and challenges
Although the book looks at some pop culture icons through a decidedly gay sensibility, it is welcoming to all. The challenge in marketing will be in saying "Yes, this has a gay point of view, but you'll like it too!"
In an effort to maximize sales, the book will be available through Amazon, and I'm working on getting it into some brick and mortar stores as well.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
