The primary goal of this project is to create and release a Graphic Novel adaptation of the Sail Weaver. We have contracted a fantastic set of artists to make this happen and they have captured the essence and feel of the story without compromising quality or taking forever to provide finished pieces.
The secondary goal is to release an audio book of the Sail Weaver. It's one of the top requests from fans at conventions and through email. We have a draft of what the Sail Weaver could sound like and we'll be sharing that to show off for the project.
Graphic novels are insanely popular but they cost an incredible amount of money to produce. The artist's time alone takes up the majority of these funds but then we have production of the books and distribution as well. We want to expand the Sail Weaver experience so that anyone can enjoy the story in whatever medium they want.
We feel that the high quality art and rich story will be a wonderful way to absorb the Sail Weaver and it will set us up for the second book in the series, one that will capture the imagination just as much as the original did. With your help, we look forward to bringing the Sail Weaver to stunning life in ways that have not been available before.
Risks and challenges
Artists could take too long: We've mitigated this risk by contracting a studio to do this work rather than an individual or even a couple of people. This company has plenty of staff who can handle our book and we'll have a dedicated team for taking care of each stage of development.
The Audio Book is a lot of work! Yes, this is true but we've got a dedicated resource with a reliable studio to make this happen. We've already proven out that we can get chapters completed in a timely fashion so this will be one of the easier elements to take care of.
Printing of a book: We're not doing it ourselves. We'll be contracting out the initial run through another company to ensure that all backers get their copies. Furthermore, we'll do print on demand for other books except in the case of getting it out to brick and mortar stores. Sadly, the shelf space for such graphic novels are currently bloated by the likes of Marvel and DC so we'll be primarily available through the Convention circuit and online.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
