About this project

In the Summer of 1944 the Allied invasion of France began, the fate of Europe now lay in the hands of military commanders. As one of those commanders, you must take control of either an Allied or Axis combined arms force and lead them to victory. Will you use cunning and deception to out-think and out-manoeuvre your enemy, or rely on tanks and guns to smash through their lines with brute force? You will have to manage your resources carefully, deciding when and how to commit your forces for best effect as you fight across two battlefields at a time. But no plan survives contact with the enemy, do you have what it takes to overcome the unpredictable Fog & Friction of war and prove yourself as the greatest military commander?

Fog & Friction is an easy to learn and fun game about tactical planning and making tough decisions, then adapting that plan and changing those decisions to survive the unpredictable nature of war! The aim of the game is to capture battlefields by defeating your opponent's forces. The challenge is that there are always two battlefields in play at any one time, so your attention is always split across two fronts. In each game round there are two consecutive deployment phases, allowing players to act and react to the situation as it develops...

When faced with two battlefields and two deployment phases, every decision and every move has double the gravitas. If you get it wrong you may lose both battlefields, if you get it right you could win both. Sometimes though, finding a way to hold out in the hope of getting the reinforcements you need next turn is all you can do... but that can be damn satisfying too!

There are 4 types of card with which to make up your deck: Front Line, Support, Logistics and Fog & Friction. Each has it's own purpose and utility in battle, with differing strengths, weaknesses and special rules. Shown below are two examples of each card.
The complete core game is available as (watermarked) Print & Play PDFs, the links to which can be found below. Please bear in mind that these are the development versions of the game and, as such, may not reflect the final release version. All the actual rules themselves are final, but the formatting and wording of the rule book itself are still being worked on. The files will be updated as necessary as the project progresses.

Pondfoot Games does not claim to own the rights to any of the photographs used on the cards. Great care has been taken to source those images which, to the best of our knowledge, are either in the Public Domain or under Share Alike licences, and are therefore allowed to be used in commercial works under the same licence. For those images which require attribution, a list is available on our website linking the card's code to the relevant attribution.

Fog & Friction is designed as an expandable card game and we have lots of interesting ideas for future expansions. The core decks are playable right out of the box, so you can start playing right away, but each future expansion will have a thematic focus adding more options for both the Axis and Allied players when building a deck.
We also have plans for introducing the Soviets as a new faction further down the line, with all the interesting new toys and ways of fighting that they will bring. If all that wasn't enough, we have ideas for other theatres like Northern Italy or the Pacific, as well as gameplay expansions introducing new mechanics and a whole plethora of new cards... but our first priority is getting the core game printed and getting the game into your hands!
As a newly established independent games company, Kickstarter is a fantastic way for us to directly target our future players and get them involved with the project at the very beginning.
As people we really appreciate the opportunity to get to know the folks who are helping us make this a reality, also we realise just how fantastic a community you are and we hope that you'll help us spread the word and increase awareness of Fog & Frction WWII.
In return for your support we will be offering the core game for £20 at the "Captain" reward level, well under the RRP of £27.99 and if we reach our first stretch goal then all the cards will get Kickstarter branding as a way for all of you to have something truly unique.
There are several exclusive extras available to higher tier backers including Kickstarter exclusive card graphics and playmats, so hopefully there is something there to appeal to everyone. Also any backers at the "Major" reward level or above will be thanked personally in the rule book(and any reprints) as it's you folks who make it happen.
We are now happy to announce that all copies of the game sold on Kickstarter will include Kickstarter exclusive pins printed on all Force cards. There is also the opportunity to unlock a free copy of the first themed expansion for every backer from the "Captain" level upwards. More details about the expansions contents will be revealed as the campaign progresses.
As an independent company and first time publisher we are aware of the issues that international shipping can cause, but we are partnering up with Wayland Games who will handle all our order fulfilment and distribution. All our stock will also be stored with them so we are very confident with their ability to provide prompt delivery and quality customer service.
All the game components are being produced here in the U.K. by Cartamundi, so we won't be waiting on overseas deliveries and can keep a close eye on quality control.
Production lead time should be about 8 weeks following a successful campaign, so delivery is estimated for early September 2015. All the design and testing has been done so we will be ready to print as soon as the Kickstarter campaign ends. We hope to get all rewards sent out together, although some components of the higher level pledges may have to be packaged separately.
The "Captain", "Lieutenant" and "Supply Drop" reward level pledges will need shipping to be added after the pledge is entered, the costs are as follows:

Pondfoot Games is a newly established independent games company consisting of Tom Fisher and Jeremy Stout. We have been keen gamers, in one way or another, for about 20 years. A few years ago we realised that we had so many ideas and thoughts about games and game mechanics, that we should try to make a game of our own, after lots and lots of testing and refining from the kernal of an idea slowly grew Fog & Friction World War II.
Risks and challenges
We have spent a lot of time and effort preparing for the campaign and hope we have readied ourselves for what might occur as best we can.
