Watch Liza pull the emergency brake on her life and move back to suburbia with Mom and Dad.
**UPDATE** THANK YOU x1 million for kicking in and helping us reach our goal way ahead of schedule! We have a new REACH goal: $20,000! We think we can do it! Do you?
Hi! Thank you so much for stopping by. Let’s make a webseries together! Okay, okay, fine - we’ll do most of the work. Okay, all of the work. We just need one very important thing from you: cold, hard cash. Following your dreams is expensive, folks. But let’s back up for a second. Who are these chicks? And what the heck is OH, LIZA?
Allow us to introduce ourselves:
Kaitlin Schuster (Writer, Producer, Star) is a New York City based performer, writer and a graduate of the Conservatory at the Atlantic Theater Company. She has had the great fortune to work at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and with Colt Coeur, the Play on Words Reading Series in NYC, and Do it Live in San Francisco. Her award-winning film work has been featured on the Urban Outfitters Blog and the international culture blog, Portable.tv. www.kaitlinschuster.com
Cat Coyne (Writer, Producer) is a writer, producer and performer born 'n raised in the heart of Boston, MA. Most recently, she can be seen as her unrecognizable alter ego, Colleen Hanrahan, at www.westiegirl02132.tumblr.com. She resides in Brooklyn, NY and tweets @catttie and (as Colleen) @princess02132.
About the show:
Liza is twenty-five years old. Liza lives in New York City. Liza has the job you want, but could never intern long enough to get. Liza has it all together. Until she doesn’t. OH, LIZA is a webseries about a girl who pulls the emergency brake on her life in hopes of moving back home with Mom and Dad. But, arriving in suburban New Jersey, Liza discovers that her parents have rented her childhood bedroom to a stranger, a dude in his twenties, also trying to figure it out. Navigating this bizarre living situation, reconnecting with old friends while avoiding others and rethinking what it means to call yourself an adult are among the hazards of suburbia in this charmingly uncomfortable new series about the consequences of trying to press pause on your life.
Our vision for OH, LIZA:
This six episode webseries is our collective brainchild, emerging from our shared experience as twenty-somethings trying to make it work in the big, bad city. Inundated with Millennial survival stories, tales of living from paycheck to paycheck, we began to ask ourselves: What would it take for us to move home? Bedbugs? A bad breakup? Negative bank account balance? And what would be waiting for us when we got there?
This is Liza's story. But, it's also ours. And yours. We imagine OH, LIZA to be a rallying point for anyone who has taken a circuitous path in their 20's, or perhaps at any point in their life. Liza's experience shows us that it's okay and sometimes even necessary to go back to page one.
In the true spirit of DIY, OH, LIZA is proud to showcase the music of female-fronted bands curated by our badass music supervisor, Kiri Oliver. You can expect to hear sounds from the ladies of Leda, Steps of Doe and many more. For a weekly dose of our favorite new music, check out Kiri's OH, LIZA Friday Playlist on Soundcloud.
Meet the amazing people we're working with:
Ellie Heyman, Director, is a New York City-based theater director. Her work is best known and celebrated for its athletic physicality and visually imaginative aesthetic. Ellie is the Creative Director of The Orbiting Human Circus with Julian Koster and Artistic Director of Helikon Rep. She currently developing a radio series, "The Orbiting Human Circus of the Air" for NPR, and is creating several productions, including a new piece about Pulitzer Prize winning poet Anne Sexton, a re-imagining of Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under the Elms, and a new work about John Steinbeck. Her work can be viewed at ellieheyman.com. Ellie also trains actors at Ellie Heyman Acting Studio.
Ryan Mitchel, Director of Photography, grew up watching Tim Burton, Wes Anderson, David Fincher and the Back to the Future series. He didn't know he wanted to be a director of photography but, as his mom says, he always had a good eye. In college, he took his first filmmaking class, where he found his frame and his love for the camera. Since then, he moved to New York to take part in the independent film scene. After a couple of years of working for various production companies on many different projects, Ryan started his own production company with some fellow filmmakers. They are 23 Minutes In and, like Ryan, are dedicated to making great films. Ryan is passionate about film and you can feel his passion in every frame he captures. www.ryanmitchel.com
Kiri Oliver, Music Supervisor, is a musician, music booker, writer, and performer from Brooklyn. She currently plays in the band Leda, curates the musical guests for the cult hit internet/cable access show The Chris Gethard Show, and books female-fronted DIY shows as part of the booking duo Fake French. She occasionally writes things on her Tumblr.
Julia Carusillo, Original Poster Art, is an MFA candidate ('13) in Production Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She earned her BFA in Art Direction at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY in 2011. She is originally from Chicago and enjoys theme parks, set design, film history, architecture, NBC's Community, alt comedy, Italian and Scandinavian film, American literature, German history, illustration, travel, adventure and going to the movie theatre. She wants to create worlds for film, television and theme parks. www.juliacarusillo.com
